  • Gigabyte EP45-UD3P Bios settings

I have been trying to configure my mobo to run with my G-Skill ram and so far I have not much luck.

So far I have configured everthing to the first stickey note on the DDR2 forum and I still come up with the "BLUE SCREEN ERRORS" like : "page fault in no paged area" and "bad spool header"

I just ran the windows "Memory Diagnostics Tool" and it came up with an error

    ***Problem Event Name: MemDiagV1

According to he ram compatatabily chart on Gigbyte support there are only 2 ram manufactures that are compatable with my mobo, and G-Skill is not one of them "but that is nither here nor there" because this is what they have tested so far. So there must be a fix for this.

If anyone has the correct fix for this in the bios settings, could you please let me know

    My Computer specs.

    Case: Antec Sonata 3
    Power Supply: Corsair 650W
    Intel Core2 Quad 9550 2.83GHs LGA 775 95W
    Gigabite EP45-UD3P Motherboard Rev 1.6
    G Skill 4GB (2X2 GB) 240 PIN DDR2 SDRAM 1066
    WD 1TB HD
    Zalman CNP 9500 Cooling Fan
GeForce GTX 260 Video Card (overclocked)
    Samsung 22X DVD+R

Which Gskill set do you have? Did you look at this one?

      Hello Thanks for the response

      I have the PC2 8500****Model# F2-8500CLSD-4GBPK-Retail

The setting that you had refered to, would these refer to me also????

Okay, you have the CL 5 D, not SD, the set with light blue heatsinks?
Do you have the sticks in slots 1,3 the yellow ones?
May want to try them in 2,4.
        Have RAM voltage at 2.1?
Have you tested the sticks individually to possibly isolate the error to a single stick?
May also want to run Memtest86 on each individually and singularly.

For settings you'll want to load them manually, you want 5-5-5-15, command rate 2T, start at 2.1 volts (may be able to lower to 2.0), tRFC around 64-70....others can be played with, but I'd start with the above

I would also up the MCH core to 1.3, ICH core to 1.2 DRAM voltage to 2.10. I could not get your sticks big brothers to work. I had the 8500 Pi, same board.

So I am interested in seeing if you can get these stable on that board.

G Skill tech, whats the difference using these sticks versus the 8500 Pi's both are 8500's are the chips inside any different??

I have the voltage set to 2.0. I did have it set to 2.1(specs) but I think all it did was bring up a red block screen in the bios saying " Failures because of overlocking or changes of voltage. Last settings in this page may not coincide with current H/W states", So I set the voltage to 2.0.

Then I did a windows mem test and it came up with "hardware Failure"

I changed the ram positions from 1 and 3,***to*** 2 and 4..(the ram was seated correctly) Did the mem test again, and it passed, no problems......So everything seems to be running fine now with no blue screens. I really don't understand by switching the ram positions made a difference, but it did.. Any thoughts!!

              MEMTEST86+ instructions

I would run memtest 86+ v 2.11 (free version that will do all windows OS) and see what it says about your RAM specifically. Mine appeared to work okay and then I would get a BSOD. So I checked them with memtest and they failed.

              Get memtest here--> http://www.memtest.org/

              MEMTEST INSTRUCTIONS:
Download the file called Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.zip)
Save the file first, then unzip it to reveal the iso image file, (use 7zip or win zip to unzip it from the file you saved). Then choose BURN THE IMAGE to a cd (not copy it) and leave it in your dvd/cd drive and reboot your computer, setting bios to boot off CD first, takes around 2 hours to run the full test, then it repeats until you press esc or so many errors happen that it locks up. Errors will appear as RED. If all is well, after test 9 or so, the tests will repeat. Blue screen here is good-- RED is bad! Hope that helps anyone else wondering how to use this tool Be patient doing htis test, mine showed okay until test 5 came around!

Not sure why, but with some of the UD3P and UD3R boards, it's almost like the are crossed with most RAm all is good in 1-3, but with some you have to start in 2-4 and then add in 1-3 to fill the slots....weird

The EP45-UD3P is very weird, not sure if it is a defect, but most will only operate in slots 2 and 4.

                    4x64,

Another customer asked your question as well, so below is my response.

Regarding our memory packages, although model numbers are similar, the IC chips are completely different. Our model numbers are all similar as they simply state the speed, DDR123, latency, capacity, and lastly the series type. So if you are comparing two DDR2-1066 memory packages with the same CAS latency, of course half of their model numbers will be identical. We do not waste time with having a "premium" heat sinks simply to add another model # to our line up, etc. All different series, PK, TD, PQ, NQ, etc. have different IC chips and therefore as far as performance, they will all be different.

If you don't believe me, try testing two sets. PK will have a ~.4 lower Windows Index rating than the PI since PIs are high performance gaming modules.

                    Thank you

That means the RAM is fine! It's got to be a setting in BIOS or the Board causing issues. Post your BIOS info. Here's a template for the board:
