  • 16 gb best settings F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL

    Hi,
Could you please help me find the best settings for my hardware.
    I'm having a hard time trying to stabilize a Asus M4A89GTD PRO USB3 and AMD 1090T running 4x4gb sticks F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL (that came from G.Skill RMA# UR2112686).
The memory was recognized right on the first attempt but the computer freezes or shows blue screens all the time. It's impossible to run Prime95 or even copy a 500mb folder.
I've tried all settings, including default, everything I found in this forum, all Asus recommendations. Nothing makes this system stable: I can't run Prime95, nor copy files nor run an application like Firefox or Photoshop without a freezing, after 1 or 2 minutes.
This motherboard is the third RMA replacement.
The first one worked fine for 6 months, with 8gb F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL.
The second one worked fine for 2 days, with 16gb F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL. I was using the settings I found on the forum and I had not a single problem, I could run Prime95 during 45 minutes @48?C. The system was stable and fast. Then I was running a monitor calibration software when it froze and stopped working (no more boot, nor post, nor beeps).
Because of this, I think I have my third Asus faulty motherboard in 40 days! Before the fourth RMA I'd like to try all possible settings.
Thanks a lot for your help.
    Fernando

There are speed limitations when you populate all 4 slots on a AMD system. I have never built an AMD system before let alone use one so my suggestions are limited.

Does it work with 8GB (2x4GB)?
Have you tried 1333 with 16GB?
Increased any voltage in the bios?
    Tested each kit/stick for defects?

"Could you please help me find the best settings for my hardware." "I was using the settings I found on the forum and I had not a single problem"
It seems that you already found it.

"The memory was recognized right on the first attempt but the computer freezes or shows blue screens all the time."
When and how often, what were you doing?

"It's impossible to run Prime95 or even copy a 500mb folder." "I can't run Prime95, nor copy files nor run an application like Firefox or Photoshop without a freezing, after 1 or 2 minutes."
Remove any overclocks if theres any. Manually set 1333 for the ram in the bios and try again.

"I could run Prime95 during 45 minutes @48?C." "The system was stable and fast."
Not long enough to stress the ram/memory controller.

"it froze and stopped working (no more boot, nor post, nor beeps)."
No power? Check PSU. Use only 1 stick of ram and try again.

The computer freezes or shows blue screens with the following settings:
1)the memory manually set to 1333Mhz (the CPU frequency is 3200Mhz, factory default for this CPU).
2)CPU/NB voltage manually set to 1.20.
3)Dram voltage manually set to 1.50.

      In the DRAM Timing section:
4)Command Rate is manually set to 2T
5)Read to Read Timing is manually set to 5.

Any other settings remain on default (auto)

Yesterday I got a much more stable result running overclocked @ 3840Mhz (cpu ratio 16, bus frequency 240) and DRAM frequency 1600Mhz. All these problems started today.

I'll remove all memory and check stick/slot one by one.

      -------------------
"it froze and stopped working (no more boot, nor post, nor beeps)."
No power? Check PSU. Use only 1 stick of ram and try again.
It had happened to the previous mb. The PSU was OK, all fans spinning, all leds on. The motherboard simply died, like a lamp which stops making light. No post, no boot, no beep.
I RMA the board and Asus send me this one! It looks like I had 3 bad Asus mb in a row.

Try 9-9-9-24-2T @ 1.65v. Theres also a chance that 2 kits wont work together even if they are the same model.

1)These 2 kits came together from GSkill(G.Skill RMA# UR2112686). I bought 2 kits at Newegg, send them to GSkill. They were replaced by new 2 kits supposed to work together.

2)I removed 3 sticks and start testing, 1 stick, socket a1: mem86 fails to start.
I booted through mem86 boot-disk, got the first screen, chose the mem86 v4, and that is it, nothing more happens. I'm missing something?

3)I tried Prime95, under windows. Stick #1 got blue screen in 5 seconds, stick #2 got blue screen in 5 minutes.
          I'll keep testing...

So its a (2x4GB) X2 and not a (4x4GB)? Still its not guaranteed to work together if its not sold as a 16GB package.

Try the other slots with 1 stick, it could be that socket a1 is dead and not the ram/mobo.

Try again with 1.65v, 1 stick at a time, if it fails then move on to the next stick.

              One stick fail Memtest86+

One stick, so far, fail Memtest86+. I'm going to check the next one.

I started the test again on the same stick. Now it shows 0 errors. I'm really confused.

Check the sticky for running 1600, tohave basic setup, then may need further adjustments (primarily CPU/NB up)

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

                  Thanks,
I manually set 1600Mhz, cas 9-9-9-24, Command Rate T2, Read to Read Timing to 5. All other settings are default.
The test first pass at 100%, 0 errors.

                    third pass fail

                    The third pass fail.
By 4% it starts counting errors. Should I stop or keep waiting until the end of this?

                      4 sticks fail memtest

                      1) Each one of 4 sticks was tested individually on socket A1 during at least 3 hours.
                      2) Two sticks have fail Memtest86+ v4.2 within the first 15 minutes.
                      3) The 2 good sticks were installed in socket A1 and B1. The Memtest86+ fails, thousands of errors on pass 3.
                      4) It looks like a faulty motherboard, a faulty processor and 4 faulty sticks.
                      5) Manual settings are:
                      CPU RATIO= 18
                      CPU BUS= 200
                      PCIE= 100

                      DRAM VOLTAGE= 1.54375

                      DRAM TIMING section:
                      9, 9, 9, 24
DRAM READ TO READ TIMING= 5
                      COMMAND RATE= 2T

All the rest is default, auto.

                          4 sticks at 1333

                          Hi,
I've tried 4 sticks at 1333, at the beginning of this nightmare, it was unstable as any other settings I tried so far.

Right now I'm running just one (tested ok) stick (4gb) at socket B1. It looks like stable. I'm running Prime95, Core Temp, CPU-Z for over an 1 hour. So far it was impossible to run Prime95, I got freezing or BSOD in few seconds. There's something wrong at A1 socket.

The motherboard is a ASUS M4A89GTD PRO USB3 (AKA Nightmare) is the third bad one in a row, in 40 days. The CPU is AMD 1090T (pretty good indeed and no problems so far), the memory is 4x4gb F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL (first RMA).
I'll test the 4 sticks again, on socket B1, before RMA.
I would be rich if I was paid for testing computer parts!

I think the motherboard is faulty.
I'm running Memtest again on a different socket since I realize the A1 socket is defective.
                              I'll keep you informed.
