I have vever seen memory modules run at all differant settings, with my old computer i had up to three and tey were all the same.
Is this common with the new computers
They are mixing different sticks (a pair of 2GB and a pair of 1 GB) which can throw things off, and since they have a proprietary BIOS, there's really no telling, though I would hazard a guess, that they may have it set up so that it might be difficult to find 3rd party sticks that will work, wanting you to have to buy from them for upgrades, Dell, HP and Compaq used to do this all the time

Do you thinking that they installed individual 1gb and 2gb sticks in this computer ? is the computer setting the frequencies or did Gateway do this ? I know some people enjoy having computer problems other wise they would not run memtest without even having any problems and there seems to be an urge to always overclock as soon as you install the ram. I do not play games anymore so i do not need ram that can be overclocked, all i want is additional ram that will be compatible with the larger sticks i have now in my computer to give me the additional headroom without having any problems. Since my bios does not have any adjustments and have the latest i need the most likely ram that will be computable.
If Gateway doesn't offer any sure fired options, maybe GSkill will know of something come Monday, I checked their RAM configuration thing as well as the one at the Egg and they don't list your model, nor could I find upgrades available on Gateways site.

Well i finally got my F3-10600CL9D-8GBNT kit from newegg, i first made note where the oem modules were 2gb sticks were in the black slots and 1gb sticks were in the blue slots, i even placed them in order as they came out just in case things went south and i had to install them again. I installed the Gskill sticks in the black slots and booted up, no problems but system seemed sluggish as compared to with the other sticks. Ran windows experience index and got the same 7.6 out of 7.9. Shut down and installed the 2gb oem sticks in the blue slots, booted up and no problems, system now has 12gb and the sluggishness has gone pages pop open and i hardly see the hour glass when you click on anything. One crazy thing i noticed on the oem sticks is that they are labeled as GDDR3-1333, i thought that type of ram was only in video cards.

It's prob stock(ish) 1333 DDR3 w/ the G added for Gateway, glad to hear it's working, (so.....will we see you back in another few months ready to go 16?)

If i can sell a few things on ebay and the Egg has another sale. who knows. It would be overkill for what i plan to do with this computer, the 6gb would have been enough i think but we all think more is better even if half is never used
That can be a project for you, might look into what all you can do with a RAM Drive, you might be amazed at what can be speeded up....I've got a pair of 120 Snipers in RAID 0, and still like to play with the RAM Drive to load some of my most used apps - doesn't even give you time to blink, and the RAID is extremely fast

That's an idea, the bottleneck on this computer is its 5800 rpm HD, this is one reason i did not want to get the higher performance sniper modules. This system needs a faster HD, powerful PSU and a smoking graphics card
