    • Tm, just had a look at the ASUS Crosshair V Formula Qualified Vendors List (QVL).

      DDR3 1600:

      No mention to 16GB set.

I am confused again. Can you elaborate please.

      Thanks

      • The mobo itself can handle up to 32GB and up to 2133 (I believe) but it won't support 16GB or 2133. At 16GB about the best it will do is 1600 (possibly 1866) and a lot of that depends on the CPU. i.e. the bulk of AMD CPUs can't run 1600, the 8150 and depending the 8120 can run 2133 (2 sticks), some 8150 and 8120 have run 16GB of 1866 (but less than more). The 1100T can handle 16GB of 1600. One of the big problems with QVLs, is that it's just a smapling, mobo companies can't test every set of DRAM available, and I know with ASUS, they test with whatever sticks they have around (i.e. the X79 mobos that were just recently reduced often have long discontinued lines and sets of DRAM (like the Tridents and Flares) on their QVL (they have probably had the sticks in their shop for a couple years or more.

        • Hi everyone, I'm new on this forum and need some advice like all the others . I recently bought a new MB, the ga-990fxa-ud3 rev 1.0 and want to slam some 8 or 16 gb kit of ddr3. I will be using a phenom ii 900e cpu, rev RB-C2. Is it really true it's not possible running 1600 cl7 with my current cpu? If so I will be using two kit's of 2x4 1333 cl7. Will it be ok for my cpu controller with 4 dimm's?

          • You should be OK at 1333, but I'd suggest a single set, I say this because anytime you mix two sets it can be problematic, with a single 4 stick set you get a set that is tested to work together. Normally at 1333 there's not a problem with adjusting voltages to get them to play with Intel and AMD, but more likely to encounter problems with a AMD CPU due to the weaker MC (Memory Controller)

            • Well for 110 euros I can only get 2 kit's to make 16GB. A 4x4 kit is too expensive. The 2 kit's are on their way and I will post with my results for info. One more thing, even if I OC my CPU won't help me run 4 dimm's?

              • An OC will make it easier yes, think you'll be OK w/ 1333, if you do have any problems, give us a shout and should be able to get them stable w/ slight adjustments

                • Hello,

I built this system about 7 months ago. When I get some free time I try to tweak it to get it right and it is almost there. I am not home often so that is why it has taken me 7 months.

Currently my only issue is when using my browser black lines go horizontally across the screen. Also it doesn't seem to run as fast as it use to.

I uploaded screen shots of my easytune 6 (has voltage info)

                  • You might want to try raising the RAM voltage slightly or better yet the CPU/NB voltage, not a lot, maybe .02. Maybe also check you have the latest video driver for your card

I've raised the NB Voltage and I have the latest video drivers. I will try to increase the ram voltage to see if it has any results.

Still a black line running through the screen.
I adjusted the NB voltage and the ram voltage.

                            • Do you have other DRAM you could try to see if it is directly related to the sticks, sort of sounds more like maybe the browser software, possibly monitor, maybe even the GPU driver and how it interacts with the specific app

I am using two monitors, one a HP LED connected via HDMI and a Samsung via DVI.
Both monitors get the scrolling horizontal lines no matter what application I am in.

I am going to try a different video card to see if its the video card causing this.
