  • Asus P5Q Pro Turbo & 2x F2-6400CL6D-8GBMQ 16GB Config

    Hi,
I'm trying to setup an Asus P5Q Pro Turbo with 2 sets of F2-6400CL6D-8GBMQ, for a total 16GB.
I have the latest BIOS 0602 installed on my board, and I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64, with Intel QX9650 CPU.
The board documentation lists the F2-6400CL6D BMQ series as compatible for 16GB.

At default setting the system doesn't boot with the 4 DIMMs installed, it doesn't even beep - just powers up and idles.

With up to 3 DIMMs installed (12GB) it boots up (I haven't tested stability yet).
I cross checked all DIMMs and they are all working ok individually.

I have no experience with overclocking or setting the voltage - I know where to change the settings in the BIOS, but not more than that.

What are there specific settings that will allow the system to power up and boot with all 4 DIMMs installed?

    Thanks for your help.

double check basic memory settings are correct in BIOS.

Try raising NB Voltage a couple notches to see if that helps. If you continue to have a problem, post pictures of BIOS and we can see what's going on.

    Thank you

      Bad stick?

Ok, I double checked everything today, including clearing the cmos, bios, etc.
One of the 4 sticks seems bad - system doesn't power up when it is installed.
I'm running memtest now, but I'm fairly certain that is the issue as when it is installed alone - no boot, while the other 3 work ok together with that problematic one removed.

        Bad module

I think that if memtest crashes with that specific module installed (Unexpected interrupt) then it's a fairly clear indication...
        What should I do?

If Memtest finds a bad stick when tested by itself you'll want to either exchange w/ your e/re-tailer or RMA the sticks through GSkill you can contact GSkill at

          Global: rma@gskill.com
          Pan American: rma@gskillusa.com

Info on RMAs can be found here:

            Thanks

            Thanks Tman,

I can't test that module by itself - the system doesn't power up when it is installed.
When I run memtest with this stick as a second module then I get an error.
The other 3 sticks work perfectly together as 12GB (although they need to be in a specific order on the board...does that make sense?)

I will contact the e-seller in the US, and see what their reply is, although I expect a faster turnaround with G.Skill directly.

            Thanks again!
