  • F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK on Gigabyte MA790GP-DS4H can't run at 1066Mhz

    Hi,
    My motherboard is GA-MA790GP-DS4H
    http://www.giga-byte.com/Products/Mo...A-MA790GP-DS4H

    CPU – Phenom II X4 965
    RAM - F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK

First I have the same memory kit and one of the sticks worked just fine at 1066 but the other can’t run either at 800 or 1066. So I change the kit with new one and now two sticks works only in 800Mhz together or one by one.
So there is no way to go at 1066Mhz for the memory. In Prime95 in Windows 7x64 or XPx32bit crash in the beginning or sometimes blue screens.
I try this in BIOS with different combinations of DIMM slots, try bios F5, F6 and the last F7B but always crash:

    CAS# latency - 5T -6T
    RAS to CAS R/W Delay - 5T -6T
    Row Precharge Time - 5T -6T
    Minimum RAS Active Time - 15T -18T
    1T/2T Command Timing - 2T
    TwTr Command Delay - 4T
    Trfc0 for DIMM1 - 127ns - 195ns
    Trfc2 for DIMM2 - 127ns - 195ns
    Write Recovery Time - 8T
    Precharge Time - 3T
    Row Cycle Time - 24T -33T -42T
RAS to RAS Delay - 4T

    DDR2 Voltage to 2.1V
    Northbridge Volt Control 1.2V

    Please help me

Put things to AUTO, then manually set speed to 1066, base timings to 5-5-5-15, DRAM Voltage to 2.1, Command rate to 2N, tRFC to 127ns........

if still problems raise the NB to 1.3 and the CPU/MC voltage up .05 from where it is currently

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

I try all this and raise the CPU NB Voltage - 1.3 and CPU Voltage but there is no MC voltage in my Bios, so the result was again crash.

May have to raise the HT voltage a tad (.05 to .1)..........else...........

Do you have the latest BIOS for the mobo? What slots are the sticks in? some mobos will only allow 1 stick per channel at 1066 or higher. Are you OCing the CPU?

I haven't HT voltage control, I'm with the last Bios for my board. Don't OCing the CPU, yes my mobo only allow 1 stick per channel at 1066 so I try all combinations with two sticks:
DIMM 1-2 - crash at the beginning at Prime95 or in Idle in Windows restart after 5-6 min or blue screen.
DIMM 1-3 - freeze on POST
DIMM 1-4 - crash at the beginning at Prime95 or in Idle in Windows restart after 5-6 min or blue screen.
DIMM 2-3 - crash at the beginning at Prime95 or in Idle in Windows restart after 5-6 min or blue screen.
DIMM 2-4 - freeze on POST
DIMM 3-4 - crash at the beginning at Prime95 or in Idle in Windows restart after 5-6 min or blue screen.

Try with one stick again in all DIMM slots - crash at the beginning at Prime95 or in Idle Windows restart after 5-6 min or blue screen.

I took this Ram Corsair TWIN2X4096-8500C5D, DHX, XMS2 only to make a trial and find out if the problem is in my CPU mem control or in mobo and now everything works firmly at 1066. No problems with Prime95 or Windows crashes.

Here is some shots of my bios:

You lost me, is 1066MHz stable with all four dimms populated or not?

Mine is C3 version, and all the tests I did were with 2x2 or 2x1 RAM G.Skill and 2x2 RAM kit Corsair, not 4x2.

May be there is a support problem with G.Skill Ram and Gigabyte 790GP and it is very sad. May be G.Skill tech support must contact with Gigabyte to make Bios that is not in conflict with G.Skill Ram.
Sorry for my English, I hope you can understand what I writed.

Have you tried running memtest on each stick individually to see if the sticks are bad? The PK are designed/oriented towards Intel chipsets but should be able to work with your rig. Might want to check them out w/ memtest and hopefully GSkill will be in Tues and have some input.

With memtest86+ at DOS there are errors on test 5 and at Windows with MemTest Win or Prime95 there are full with errors. Or without tests, just working in Windows for about 10-15min and there is blue screen. When I use G.Skill Ram at 800Mhz everything is fine.

Without HT Voltage Control, you may not be able to operate DDR2-1066. This motherboard was originally designed for AM2/AM2+ so it can not fully support DDR2-1066 with an AM3 CPU. What I would suggest is operating them at DDR2-800 with 4-4-4-12 timings and this should actually be faster than DDR2-1066 CL5.

                    Thank you

So why when I use Corsair TWIN2X4096-8500C5D, DHX, XMS2 at 1066 5-5-5-15-24 instead F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK at 1066 5-5-5-15-42 there are no problems, errors or craches. I'm confuse.

Because G.Skill can't work at 1066 without errors I using it currently at 800Mhz 4-4-4-12

Here is what Gigabyte tech support answered to me:

"Thank you for your kindly mail and inquiry. Basically this motherboard should support DDR2 1066MHz memory without the BIOS option you mentioned, and because there are too many kinds of memory modules available in the retail market, it is very difficult to test all of the modules with our MB products.

Thus, according to your description, if the system works properly with other memory module, then there should be no problem with the motherboard / BIOS you have, we suggest you can contact your memory supplier, and see if they can help you to test the memory directly to see if there's a memory problem.

At last, if you still have any further question or suggestion about our products/service, please do not hesitate to contact with us. We will try our best to help you resolve the problem ASAP.

                          Regards,
                          GIGABYTE TECHNOLOGY"

Benchmark them and see which is faster. =)

                            Thank you

1066Mhz 5-5-5-15 is 10% faster than 800Mhz 4-4-4-12 in Everest. I know that 10% is not too much but why I paid for more expensive 1066Mhz Ram when I can use it only like cheaper 800Mhz. So it is not only for 10% it is about money too.
Like I wrote in my first post this is the second kit of 4GBPK I change because can't work at 1066Mhz on AMD sytems. I bought this Ram from your reseller in Bulgaria http://www.HS.vc . He try my first kit on Intel system and there was no errors, but when he try the Ram on his AMD system the Ram didn't work just like with my system. So he try with F2-8800CL5D-4GBPI and F2-8500CL5D-4GBTD and the only kit that work fine on AMD system was F2-8500CL5D-4GBTD. So I wants to change my kit F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK with F2-8500CL5D-4GBTD and pay for the price divergence but your reseller said that can't change my kit with the other model except I pay 100$ for the exchange.
The price in Bulgaria for F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK is 145.80$
                              for F2-8500CL5D-4GBTD is 156.25$
                              156.25-145.80= 10.45$
The reseller said that can take mine kit for 55.55$ so want from me to pay 100.70$ to change 4GBPK for 4GBTD.
I think it is not my fault that 4GBPK is not compatible with AMD systems but the product page says that is compatible with AMD.
