  • F3-12800CL7D-4GBRH problems on MSI 790FX-GD70

    Hi,

    i already posted this on 3 different forums, but noone is able to help me.
    i bought the ddr3 1600 cl7 ripjaw 4gb kit and can?t get it to run on the 1:4 mem divider with cl7 timings. when i set cl7 and exit&save the bios i receive a "cmos checksum bad" error on the next power on self test.
    it runs fine at cl9, but that?s not what i bought it for.
    the only way to get 800mhz and cl7 is to use the 1:3.33 divider and a htt of 240mhz.
    do i miss any special timings setting to get this ram to run?
    i already tried bumping various voltages up (cpu-nb, nb, ht, vdimm) with no luck.

          If the numbers shown match yours, you might want to kick up the tRFC to 127 or so

            Cpu is a phenomII 965be
            Trfc is shown in nanoseconds from 110ns up to 350ns.
            What is 127 translated to nanoseconds?
            Do all three trfc have the same value?

                127.5ns isn?t available, so i tried 160-110-110-110
                still doesn?t work..

                  What type of issues are you having? Same "cmos checksum bad" every time?

                  Try 160-160-160-160 Enter all the timings in manually. What are all of your voltages set at?

                  Thank you

                    I'm at work at the moment, but I'll try 160-160-160-160 when I get home.
                    The issue is always the same "cmos checksum bad" when i set cl7.
                    I found out that the same thing happens when i try setting cl6 on the 1:3.33 divider.

                      If you still have issues afterwards, go ahead and send them in for new replacements and see if they will be better.

                      Thank you

                        i?m still having this issue...
                        i doubt that sending them in for a replacement of the exact same model will solve the issue.
                        i had another set of f3-12800cl7d-4gbrh here that was another revision. my sticks have a sticker on them that says 7-7-7-21@1.65v and the other set had a sticker on them that said 7-7-7-24@1.65v. so i guess they were a different revision, but i had the exact same issue with them too.
                        this is, as far as i know, the only cl7 ddr3 1600 4gb dual channel kit from g.skill. i know that these modules are designed for i5 and p55 chipset, but i would send them in if i get modules back that have been tested on am3 too.

                          Same Issue Here, Too

                          I am experiencing the exact same behavior as MadDias: I can get 1600 at CL9, or 1333 at CL7, but not 1600 at CL7. I have two identical systems except for CPU. CPU1=Phenom II X4 955, CPU2=Phenom II X4 945. Otherwise:
                          Mobo: MSI 790FX-GD70, latest BIOS ver 1.4
                          RAM: G.Skill F3-12800CL7D-4GBRH (Note: 1 stick (2GB) in each machine)
                          HD: Western Digital Black WD6401AALS, 640GB SATA II
                          PSU: Corsair CMPSU-650TX 650W
                          Video: Saphire 100279-1GL Radeon HD4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5
                          Memory set to UNGANGED

                          The following setups will boot and run XP just fine.
                          FSB/DRAM Ratio: 1:3.33, 1333
                          Advanced DRAM Config:
                          DRAM voltage 1.6V
                          CAS = 7
                          tRCD = 7
                          tRP = 7
                          tRAS = 24
                          1T/2T = 1T
                          Rest at Auto/Default
                          OR
                          FSB/DRAM Ratio: 1:4, 1600
                          DRAM voltage 1.6V
                          1T/2T=1T
                          Rest at Auto/Default

                          However, the following setup yields a "cmos checksum bad" error:
                          FSB/DRAM Ratio: 1:4
                          AND
                          Advanced DRAM Config:
                          CAS = 7
                          tRCD = 7
                          tRP = 7
                          tRAS = 24
                          1T/2T = 2T
                          tRFC0, 1, 2 &3 = 350
                          Rest at Auto/Default
                          DRAM voltage tried at both 1.6V and 1.65V

                          Please advise. Thanks,
                          dw33b

                            If you could post up some BIOS pictures, I can take a look at what you may have set incorrectly especially as far as advanced timings.

                              Note: When I try the settings listed in the second image, I will get the cmos checksum error mentioned previously. The CPU-Z pics are when I leave the CAS settings on AUTO.
