  • Firmware 2030 "The system cannot find the file 64GB-1.exe"

I am trying to upgrade firmware 1916 to 2030. I have booted off the supplied WinPE disk. But when I try to run 64GB-1.exe, I get "The system cannot find the file 64GB-1.exe".

I can dir and its there. I can copy it to a new name, so I am definitely typing the correct file name. However, as soon as I try to run it, I get that error like the file is not there.

Tried 64GB-2.exe, 128GB-1.exe etc, all same.
Created my own WinPE boot USB ensuring those files were on that same USB, same.
Have tried a number of bios changes re SATA setup, same.
Per some other posts have set it to be SATA disk 0, removed all other drives, CDs etc, same.

I can run the file within windows 7 and it runs ok, but says no gskill disk found.
Tried to run from within safe mode, but can't get that far having changed SATA setting to IDE from normal AHCI.
The gskill is my boot disk. I have cloned to another drive and booted from that. Same. Can't set sata to IDE mode though per instructions. If I do, neither original or cloned one will boot.
Tried cloning to a USB drive but it won't work fully, starts loading windows then crashes.

The cloning issue is just info on what I've tried. Back to WinPE. Thats what this forum says I should do. Take that ISO, make a CD, boot from it, at the commandline run 64GB-1.exe (yes I have a 64GB SSD).
    What am I doing wrong???

    Hi ddk,

Could your BIOS recognize this storage?

      Bios normally set to:
      Sata Config: Enhanced (options Compatible,Disabled)
      Configure Sata: AHCI (options RAID,IDE)
When booting the bios lists it as SATA PORT 0: G.SKILL FALCON 64GB SSD 1916.

For the upgrade, per instructions, I set that second option to IDE.
When booting then the bios lists it as Pri Master: G.SKILL FALCON 64GB SSD 1916.

        Hi ddk,

Did you use bootable USB drive?

you have to boot via your USB drive.

Yes. Tried bootable USB and CD. The WinPE boot (provided by this forum) gets to the command prompt fine.

            Hi ddk,

please just use bootable USB drive and follow FW 2030 process.
            it should be work.

My apologies. I thought I had clearly documented that I had followed that procedure precisely. It did not work, giving me the error stated earlier.
I went on to demonstrate that I had tried a number of possible workarounds, none of which worked.
The error only occurs trying to run the firmware update whilst booted from a USB/CD (the WinPE environment as opposed to full Windows).

                I am sorry.
Please tell us what motherboard you use?
Let us find a workable solution.
                Thank you.

                    Hi ddk,

because Falcon FW 2030 need use at DOS mode, you have to create a bootable USB drive.
please re-download Falcon FW 2030 file again.
I have already added introduction with this package.
                    it should be work.

Ahhh, its so simple with the right information.
The new download includes clear instructions and files to create an old style Win98 boot USB (not WinPE as I had been lead to previously).
With that the upgrade took mere seconds and now working like a charm
Thanks very much for your help.
