  • Orginial Firmware Update Tool Doesnt see SSD

I have followed the instructions to launch the tool however it does not see the SSD drive (Phoenix Pro 120 gig). I have a Lenovo G460 i5, single drive laptop (Intel Platform). I have changed the IDE ATA/ATAPI controller to Std AHCI 10 Serial ATA Controller and checked that BIOS has AHCI selected. None of these steps work, I would like to update SSD PhxPro firmware please help.
    Thanks
    Roger

If you using Intel RST Driver v10 then you need change to standard AHCI driver.
How do change intel driver or Microsoft driver.

Orginial Firmware Update Tool Doesnt see SSD

      Thanks Wales,
As I stated in the post I have completed all the steps:
      1. BIOS - AHCI
      2. IDE using Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller

Using the tool in admin mode it does not see SSD drive.
Any other ideas would be welcome.
      Roger

Please check ssd is connected to the main sata port of INTEL.
If your ssd inside has Mac or linux partition then you need remove the partition.

Orginial Firmware Update Tool Doesnt see SSD

          Hi Wales,
This laptop has one internal SATA connector which is on SSD PhxPro 120gigs.
I am running Win 7 x64 by the way. It has single SSD configured C: and D: NTFS 100gigs total and on OEM partition of 8.13 gigs which is empty.
Device Manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI shows the following:
          ATA Channel 0
          ATA Channel 1
          ATA Channel 4
Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller
I dont see anyway to change this assignment
          Thanks
          Roger

            Hi rbbrick,

I think the problem is the OEM partition.
According our experience, if this SSD has others non-windows partitions.
Upgrade tool would not recognize storage.
You can use recover software( for example: a software called ghost) to backup this storage(or only this partitions) first then delete the OEM partition.
After upgrading firmware 3.2, recover the OEM partition.

Orginial Firmware Update Tool Doesnt see SSD

              Wales thanks for your assistance.
I have removed OEM partition and left unallocated 8.13GB also tried tool with new 8.13GB partition empty formatted to NTFS --- still doesnt work.
Here is the single disk layout now:
71mb - believe this partition is Win 7 boot
C: 92.8gb ntfs boot page primary partition
              D: 10.61gb ntfs logical drive
              8.13gb unallocated
Dont believe I should remove the 71mb partition this may cause a no boot scenario with Win7

Near the end of the trail at this end.
I have backed up the entire drive with Acronis.
              Roger

                Hi rbbrick
Sorry, I can not help for your problems. I don't understand where is the problem.
You can try this last function. But if you using the notebook have not any problem, maybe you don't need upgrade new FW.

I had the same issue at first but try "right click > run as administrator" on firmware update tool. It then detected it for me.
