  • can i use 2 single 2GB ram, for dual channel configuration , coz 4 GB kit not avail

    hi,

can i use two of these
    http://www.flipkart.com/g-skill-ripj...6-374781a23245

for dual channel configuration, bcoz following kit is not available,

    http://www.flipkart.com/g-skill-ripj...5-9b8950253fc4

    details-
recently i updated my uncles system with
    CPU-Pentium G620
    MOBO- ASUS P8H61-M PLUS2
GRAPHIC- ASUS ATI Radeon HD 6450
    SSD- OCZ OCTANE S2

i used one of mine 4GB single ram (ddr3), temporarily since (2*2GB) kit was not available.

    use of configuration
    1. office work
    2. as HTPC
    3. mild gaming by my 10yr cousin.

    other confusions,
    1. any benefit of using 8GB RAM, in gaming and performance??
    2. can above configuration, rip single 4GB RAM similar to (2*2GB) dual channel for performance (because intel claims improved memory use in S.B)??

Can give it a try, there's no guarantee the will play together, but with 1333 there's a good chance with minor voltage adjustments

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

      thanks Tradesman for replying,

      i didn't get u, both rams are DDR3-1333/PC3-10666.
may i use two single sticks of 2gb ram, because 2*2gb kit is not available??

Programming for the sticks are done via package sticks or stick in this case, so in particular in the advanced timings, say the timing tRFC will be different (higher) for 2 sticks than it is for 1, and occasionally you'll find sticks that just won't play together, which is why DRAM is offered in a humongous array of packaging 1-2-3-4-6 sticks, by packaging together you get sticks that are not only programmed for their respective set, but with GSkill that are all tested to work together

          thanks Tman for lucid explanation!!

it means i am going to wait, few days.
and will not buy 2 sticks of
          G.Skill RipjawsX DDR3 2 GB PC RAM (F3-10666CL9S-2GBXL)

          one more question
what about a single 4 gb ram

          (G.Skill RipjawsX DDR3 4 GB PC RAM (F3-10666CL9S-4GBXL),

is it going to give performance equivalent to 2*2gb kit

          (G.Skill RipjawsX DDR3 4 GB PC RAM (F3-10666CL9D-4GBXL)???

(its kinda age old question before tomshardware published that dual configuration is better than single stick, but times has changed since they published. bcoz new CPUs have better architecture)

Actually the single stick will work fine, but the DRAM (from a benchmark viewpoint) will be a bit slower than 2x2GB as it will be running in single channel as opposed to with 2 channels (DUAL Channel)...basically in single channel the DRAM runs as 64 bit while dual channel is in 128 bit chunks

              THANKS Tman,

answer was very accurate and precise,
i will wait few days, for my uncle's new RAM kit.

meanwhile i just wanted to share that i got no performance issue by lending one of ram from (G.Skill RipjawsX DDR3 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) PC RAM (F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL)

(i have finished 2 levels of battlefield3 without any issues with core i2100 CPU on my rig!!!)

              regards
