  • Sabertooth X79 & G.Skill RipjawsZ F3-19200CL11Q-16GBZHD 16GB DDR3 2400MHz (4x4GB)

    Hi,
Recently I have bought motherboard - Asus Sabertooth X79. This motherboard has listed G.Skill RipjawsZ F3-19200CL11Q-16GBZHD 16GB DDR3 2400MHz (4x4GB) in its QVL but G.Skill does not included this motherboard in their QML, see: http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=443 ... I am just worried about XMP whether controller can detect 2400MHz profile and run memory on this frequency without any issues. I am going to use i7-3930K. Thanks for help.

The MC is in the CPU and is capable of 2400, however on this mobo they (Asus) rates it to 1866, so I would be wary, that may be indicative that they have the BIOS tuned to run UP TO 1866 and beyond that is ?????? , a maybe. Might take a look at the post I wrote here on mobo QVLs:

    http://www.gskill.us/forum/showthread.php?t=10566

It's sort of odd that they rate the mobo to 1866, but list 2400 sticks in their QVL, which may well be because when they test DRAM on the mobos they test at the default boot freq (here I believe 1600) they don't test the sticks AT 2400, so in effect they are saying that the set will work, albeit at 1600

... I have read Your post and I think You are right. Those things I am experiencing every time before my PC upgrade. So it looks like when they put memory with 2400MHz in the QML that means this memory was tested on 1866 which is highest memory stated in MB specification. I found here one post where You can see 2400 profile in Sabertooth X79 bios: http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Motherb.../BIOS-Features ... anyway, I am really thinking about swapping Sabertooth for P9X79DeLuxe where this memory is listed in QML as well and yet in MB specification is written that it supports 2400 ...

I think that's the route I'd take - when they first came out with the Sabertooth, I thought it odd that DRAMwise it was rated lower than compareable, but it's hard to get any solid info out of them
