  • Asrock Z77 extreme4 and G.Skill Ripjaws Memory Compatibility problem?

    Hello,

Soon I will be purchasing a Asrock Z77 Extreme4 Motherboard with an i5-3570k Intel processor.

My choise of memory was the RipjawsX 1600 8gb: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231428

I have heard that the Asrock Z77 Extreme4 has compatibility problems with Ripjaws series.

    I have some questions.

    1. Is that true?

    2. Will it be fixed soon with a bios update?

    3. What G.Skill Memory would you recommend to go with Asrock Z77 Extreme4, must be around the same cost as the one I linked.

    4. What other brand memory in general would you recommend to go with Asrock Z77 Extreme4, must be around the same cost as the one I linked.

    Thanks in advance.

That particular mobo just plain has BIOS problems, thankfully for you it's with higher end sticks and higher capacity - I'm working with that very mobo right now and a 3570K trying to get it figured out, haven't had problems with 2x4GB (RJ, RJ X or Sniper through 1866, but getting into 16GB/32GB 1866 and above the XMP doesn't set the Advanced timings correctly,,,will be dropping them a support request today....But you should be good, I'd go with either the 1600 Snipers (1.5 model) or the Ripjaws X that you are looking at.

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

Really? Thanks allot, because I am really happy with the build that I have made, I really like that Asrock board and its features and I won't OC it that much, maybe to 4.0ghz, that wouldn't be a problem would it?

Again, not done testing (playing) but it seems rock solid until you start loading up on DRAM, I've got it to stay solid up to 4.4 w/ 32GB of 2133/CL9, but then hit the wall, last night I discovered the hole in the advanced timings and now it seems solid....will be pushing up to 4.5-4.6 this weekend and hopefully an OC on the DRAM to 2400....(may also stick a 2500K or 2600K on the mobo and see what that will do, if any particular questions, give me a holler

Different ICs and the X line was sort of designed for the 1155 and 2nd Gen CPUs, they are supposed to be a little more fine tuned towards the 1155 than say the Snipers........but......the Snipers are my favorite line, they run well with everything I've thrown at them (which is pretty much all the mobo's/Cpus that have come out since the Snipers have been available, they OC well, running 2 sets of 2x4GB 1866/9 at 2133/10 for over 6 months now in a P67, also have 16GB 2133/9 running at 2200/9 in another P67, and 8GB of 1333 in a socket 775 with a 9650 @ 4GHz.

Hmm, are there any signigicant differences in performance when using a Asrock Z77 Extreme4 and i5-3570k?

Not really, no with equivalent sets . Have had 16GB of each (Ripjaws X and Snipers) on the mobo and both about pretty even, if you were to compare say sets of 2133 and one is a CL9 set and the other a CL10 set, no doubt the CL9 would provide better performance

1 last question, the price difference between these 2 are not that much, which one would be better money/valye investement?

                  1. Ripjaws X 1600 8gb: http://www.alternate.nl/html/product...eClassName=ram

                  2. Sniper 1866 8gb: http://www.alternate.nl/html/product...eClassName=ram

The ripjaws is 9-9-9-24 and the sniper is 9-10-9-28.

                  Thanks in advance.

I'd go the Sniper, with DRAM today, prices will continue to drop and in a couple months if you were to upgrade, might be easier to sell the faster set. 1600 is slowly becoming entry level on the Intel platform and is still some what high end for AMD
