  • Big Bang XPower II problems with XMP Profile

    first my basic system info
Big Bang Xpower II bios rev. 1.2
    G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 32GB (8 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-14900CL9Q2-32GBZL (8stick matched kit)
    Intel I-7 3820
XFX 7970 Black Edition Double Helix
    Samsung 830 256 GB

Using the above listed ram this was a new system build. Everything runs great together @ default speeds(1600mhz). When/IF I attempt to run the ram at it's advertised speeds(1866mh) via XMP Profile or manual settings system fails to post and just reboots itself a few times before finally dieing and then I have to reset the bios.
It should be noted that while I feel I am a competant computer person having built quite a few systems, OCing and messing with RAM timings is definatly not somehting I am educated about, moving along here is a short list of things I have done
    - Windows extended Memtest on each ram module individually - pass
    - XMP Profile on single sticks - passed for every stick in the set
    - since the prior worked, figured lemme try 2 modules in XMP -FAIL
    - attempted with some tech help over the phone from gskill manually setting mem profiles (I have no clue what voltages should be what for a stable 1866 profile and the gskill guys seemed uncertain of MSI's bios) set frequency to 1866
MSI Phone support said they would get back to me but alas, they have not..........

I have seen people reporting "OMG 32gb @ 1866 with xmp set, it's greeat" soo am I setting or failing to setup somehting wrong in manual mode? or is it more likely despite memtest that I have a bad kit OR that something is wrong with my MB?
    Any Help greatly appreciated

Side note, I am not overly familiar with manually setting up ram timings/voltages

After messing some more with bios, I took 4 sticks out and ran slots 1,3,5, and 7 with xmp set, dram timing set to 1866 and I think I left everyhting else on auto and it loaded, got a disk read error when it first booted but have rebooted twice now and it hasnt reshown

Why will this not work with 8 sticks?

Can you post the settings it's loading when XMP is enabled....I have a feeling MSI doesn't have the BIOS ready for 32GB to be honest and the Advaned timings are going to have to be set manually....if so it will prob also require additional MC and/or DRAM voltage increases. Same happened with a P67 I have when I took it to 32GB, XMP set the weirdest timings I've ever seen

I'd try raising the tRFC in the advanced DRAM timings to about 250, raise the VCCSA voltage to 1.15 and the CPU IO to 1.15 and see if that helps any, if so we can try and fine tune the advanced timings

Will see if GSkill can take a look if they get to the forums today, on Mondays are often busy with the weekend backlog of email requests and phone calls
