  • Ripjaws 1866 on asrock extreme3 gen3

    Hello
I have read up lots of reviews for this ram and everybody wrote they push it to 2133 with minor changes.
Here is what i already tried
    10-11-10-31 or 11-11-11-33
rise dram voltage to 1.55; 1.645 or 1.66
    rise vtt voltage to 1.2
down clock my processor to original 3.3 from 4.8ghz
switch slots of ram to a2b2 from a1b1 (my mobo had some info online that this sometimes may help)

and still there is no go under 2133mhz. I know that not all of kits will clock so high however if i missed something please let me know. thank you in advance

Which Ripjaws, the model #? There's 4 8, 16GB sets, there's Ripjaws, Ripjaws X, Ripjaws Z sets, range from CL8 Best bet), CL9 (probably), CL10 (A good maybe), need to know what we're working with. Also CPU would help assuming 25, 26 or 2700K

Will want the latest BIOS, then I'd start at 10-11-10-30, 1.6, 2T, 1.18 VCCIO with about a 4.6 OC to try 2000 to 2133..

VTT, it varies from mobo to mobo even within the same manufacturers lines

surprisingly it booted on 10-11-10-30 with dram 1.612v(1.645 no change in stability) vtt 1.12(1.22 made no difference).
i run prime and within seconds 1st and 3rd core show errors so i changed timings to 10-11-11-30 and than prime run for about a minute but still showed errors.

Im very amazed Tradesman, thats first time i saw it boot with 2133MHz!!
Would you have any more of those great ideas to make this possible kind sir?

Try same as before except VTT 1.24, add .02 to VCCSA and and vCore to 1.38 (W/ CPU at 4.6), if still no go may have to drop to CL11 11-11-11-32 around there

i figure that a1b1 slots wont let me oc at all.
anyway on slots a2b2 i have set 11-11-11-32 with all settings mentioned above and prime still spit errors.
i even tried rise every option dealing with volts and its simply not helping. it might just be a cheap mobo however i really appreciate your professional support Tradesman, you show me ways to at least get it to boot.

Its time to give up. thanks once again!!

oh and one more question how big improvement is between 1866 to 2133 and also what affect timings have on 24/7 comp
Im considering an upgrade with faster frequency or lower timings. what should i choose?

Might try same settings at 2000 for a boost, if 2133 isn't stable. If thinking 24/7 I'd choose a set that will work at a level you're happy with using default specs rather than pushing the sticks (i.e. running the sticks that are 1866 at 2133), as generally when pushing (OCing above spec) will entail more voltage and more heat...to that end and looking at the performance question for 24/7 you can to a degree look at sets with the following in mind, as how to possible compare sets:

                    Roughly 2133 @ CL10 = 1866 @ CL9 = 1600 @ CL8

The higher freq sticks will run a bit faster i.e. 213/10 is a bit better performer than 1866/9, so with what you have if you could find 1866/8 or 2000/9 or 2133/9 it might be a better selection

I'll be hanging around here for prob quite awhile, other than the first SSDs I bought from them almost 3 years ago I've been very happy with every set of sticks I've bought (most all their models, and in many cases numerous sets) as well as all the subsequent SSDs I've used in builds.

You see, I was going to get ssd to use with my intel's smart response. what do you think about all that mate? i checked and gskill doesnt have any ssd sata 3 which sucks:/

PS. i know its off topic, i hope you don mind me asking about it here

Sigh, I'm waiting for some SATA III also......sigh........ though my primary P67 is running a pair of the Sniper 120s in RAID 0, reads in the 380+, Writes 160s (and 16GB of Sniper 1866 @ 2133), and I've got Phoenix pros in a couple other systems...for Sata III drives on client build, I've been going with OCZ (good selection and haven't really had any problems)
