  • Correct downclock timings for RipjawsX (2133)

What would be the correct safe timings if i wanted to downclock my G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000) Desktop Memory Model F3-17000CL11Q-16GBXL. I set them in bios to 2133Mhz 11-11-11-30-2T and they run right to specs, but i am new to overclocking and i can get up to 4.5 with ease but as soon as i try to push over that i have problems. Running a Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3 board with Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz Quad Core. Just messing around i downclocked ram to 1600Mhz and noticed my DRAM freq at 798Mhz but couldn't find timings table in CPU-Z for 800Mhz, just 761Mhz or 838Mhz, so i set my Ripjaws timings at
10-10-10-27-2T (37 Tras). What would be the correct timings for this Ripjaws model if i want to run it at 1600Mhz? Also, can i damage the ram if the timings are lower than specs for this model F3-17000CL11Q?

For your set at 1600, I'd start at 8-8-8-26 2T, that may be rough and might be able to tighten more (maybe CL7), but all rigs will be a little different. And no it won't damage the sticks, you won't see the performance/throughput you'll see at at 2133.

Ok thanks, i set timings to 8-8-8-26-2T at 1600Mhz and pushed my rig to 4.6Mhz and ran Prime95 and passed with max temps at 67C.....Running a Coolermaster Hyper 212 also. If i try to run my Ram at 2133Mhz 11-11-11-30, what is the trick or voltage settings i would be looking for in bios in order to run at 4.6Mhz or higher without blue screening? This Sandy Bridge seems to OC very easy, i can get it to 4.6 using Easy Tune using higher ram speeds in twin turbo but its not as satisfying as OC myself starting from defaults.

First I'd suggest making sure you have the latest BIOS, then try enabling XMP and select the 2133 profile..If problems persist, as they might, raise the DRAM voltage to 1.65, may also want to see how the VCCIO is set to, will prob want 1.15 to 1.2 (poss a bit more)...hopefully the XMP in the latest BIOS will handle all that other for you

Thanks for all your great advice, i have set my ram back to 2133Mhz at 11-11-11-30 running at 4.5Mhz easily. Now i can toy around with diff speeds and timings 1333, 1600, 1866, 2133 and save them into bios profiles to see which one works out best. One more question, can i try to lower my timings running at 2133Mhz and still keep ram stable? If so, what would work?

Can try, would start with CR if currently at 2T try 1T, else try base timings at 10-11-11-30 for biggest jump, else 11-11-10-30, then 11-10-11-30 to start. May need to watch play with DRAM and VCCIO voltages

Another good place to get a take off on timings for starting out would be to read the reviews on newegg or any other vendor for that matter. I'm not trying to promote them by any means but before I buy anything I tend to read the reviews about said products. People have a tendency to brag, boast, or complain about their accomplishments or lack of. I have the same memory and that is how I started my adventures on running my timings at DDR3-1866 speeds because of my hardware limitations. So unfortunately for me I can't see DDR3-2133 at the moment but will be making the necessary changes soon Good luck
