  • 16GB kit comparison

I am comparing two 16GB kits: RipjawsX F3-12800CL9Q-16GBXM and RipjawsX F3-12800CL9Q-16GBXL. I have 3 questions:

    1) Is the only differences between the two kits that the blue runs at 1.35v and the red runs at 1.50v and is XMP certified?
    2) Are there compromises made to 2nd and 3rd level timings that allow the blue 1.35v to run at a lower voltage?
    3) Are the blue 1.35v dimms capable at 1.5v or are the heatsinks less effective?

    Thanks for any information!

    1) Yes, more specifically, they use different types of chips.
    2) No, they will still be similar, the lower voltage is due to the type of chip.
    3) Yes, many people use lower voltage memory to overclock and achieve better results. Using slightly more voltage such as 1.50V can greatly enhance performance, but actually still within the standard 1.50V.

    Thank you

I received the kits this morning, dropped them in, set the timings, volts, and here it is. Great memory. I ran the basic windows mem test and all seems good. I of course have to run my usual package of stress tests to verify it with my oc, but I don't foresee issues. I love it when all works smoothly.

Congrats! Believe you definitely took the right course by going straight out with the 16GB set, lot's of power in the 2600K and lots of DRAM. If not already there, next step may be another monitor to give all your Windows plenty of room....have fun!

You sound like me, I take trade ins on new builds, but generally end up giving the stuff away to folks who have a monitor, part or box that dies and not worth fixing (and keep a couple of systems available as loaners for folks that drop one off and it's an overnight or couple day thing)
