  • Compatibility question

    Hey,

I have a question regarding compatibility with the memory I want to purchase.

    Currently my rig is:
    MB- GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L
CPU- Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz
    Memory- G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
    GPU- EVGA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB 256-bit

I've had this rig for close to 4 years now and I feel like its times to upgrade a few things. The first piece I wanted to start with is my memory and I plan on buying a 4GBx2 set.

I was looking of these specific ones:
    1. G.SKILL Sniper Series- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231460
    2. G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231428
    3. G.SKILL Ripjaws Series- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231314
    4. G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231445

Frankly I don't know computers enough to tell the complete difference between them but I figured the sniper series would be what I want to go for. My problem is it doesn't seem like any of these sets are compatible with my outdated Motherboard. Will these not work at all if I bought them or do I really need to upgrade my MB (or buy older memory)?

    Thanks a lot!

The DRAM you show is all DDR3 and your mobo takes DDR2, also it maxes at 8GB or 4 sticks of 2GB each.
The Q6600 is a great CPU and can run 3.6 4.0GHz with a good CPU cooler, so if your thinking of staying w/ it might look to a new mobo like

that will run 16GB of DDR3 at 1600 speeds

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

Damn I was worried about that. I actually keep hearing good things about ASUS so I was looking at these 2. They look pretty good, are compatible with the sniper set and they around what I want to spend price was. I would go over the $100ish mark if it was really necessary.

My fan is ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 92mm Fluid Dynamic CPU Cooler which I've heard good enough things about even though I don't trust myself to overclock my CPU, knowing my luck I would blow the damn thing up.

I actually had my first Gigabyte MB as GA-P35-DS3L and it was corrupted and I got this one from them instead GA-EP35-DS3L. So I'm a little hesitant to get another one from them that's why I was looking at ASUS

        Either should be very good.
