  • Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z Prob

Hi, I recently bought F3-17600CL9D-8GBXLD for my new Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z. When I run the rig for a little while it freezes on me, if done EVERY kind of test possible(Prime85 for 24hrs, BurnIt, Memtest86+) and had ZERO errors, but the rig still freezes on me. Anyone has an advice for me? Does this RAM work with my mobo? Also bought F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR for testing, so I should expect it this week and see what happens. Any advice would be much appreciated.

PS. A read somewhere that the best latency this mobo works at is 9-9-9-24. Is this a factor for the freeze?

Could be, these are rated 9-11-9-28 with a CR of 2T at 1.65, prob want OC of 4.2 GHz or so, VCCIO about 1.1

Thanks Tradesman for your input. I am kinda noob with OCing rigs, how can I achieve it at 4.2Ghz CPU and the voltage at 1.2? I'll try anything!

      Rig Setup:
      Core i7 2600k
      Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z
      G.Skill 8Gb(2x4Gb) F3-17600CL9D-8GBXLD
MSI GTX 580 light. extreme edi.
      Corsair HX1050

Enable XMP and see how that works.

If good, all you need to do is raise CPU Ratio and CPU VCore to overclock/stabilize CPU.

        Thank you

Tried that and it seemed to run OK, but then I restarted the computer and it said "Overclock Failed, Please press F1 to go to ect...". Also the mobo registers it at 1600Mhz and not at 2200Mhz.

Do you have the latest BIOS?

Test one at a time with XMP enabled and see if they both work by themselves.

                Thank you

Thanks GSKILL TECH and Tradesman for all your help!

I tested it with F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR and it worked like a charm! No more computer freeze! I did some research and on overclockers.com read someone stating that intel sandy bridge mobos shouldn't be use with RAM over 1.5V and 1600Mhz speed. I don't know why, but I do know it fixed the problem I had. But sadly I have F3-17600CL9D-8GBXLD+Turbulence II that I wanted to use on my rig (sad face).

Should be fine w/ your 2200 set, they are designed for OCed P67, Z68, H67 chipsets, 1.5 is recommended yes, but for higher performance (OCing) the sticks are safe. As to the 1600 speed, actually the CPUs are rated for 1333, but that's a listed spec (which is the norm with Intel) rather under rated. With 2500K/2600K systems I normally suggest starting with minimum of 1866 sets
