  • 2 x 4gb skill ripjaws

So I just ordered these from new egg and poppedthem into my machine. Problem is that it will not boot up. All that I hear is a constant beeping coming from the motherboard. I've tries to do one at a time and still same sound happens. I know it's something with the sticks themselves because it boots up fine with a 2gb stick I have.

My question is did I have really bad luc and get two bad sticks? Or is the hardware not compatible with the motherboard. It's a p55s engage motherboard I believe. Please help!

You mean model or link to motherboard or for the ram sticks?

The sticks should work, do you have the latest BIOS?

I'm not a 100% but how would o go about checking if I have the latest bios? And if not where can I update?

Also wen I put the sticks in the motherboard makes a constant beeping I thought that meant that the sticks were bad?

Edit 1: There was an update available for my bios and i downloaded and installed and tried the ripjaws again one by one and they still did not work. gave the constant beeping again and no boot up. Any other ideas?

Try resetting the CMOS either by jumper on mobo or simply removing the battery, then install a stick in slot 1 and see what happens

                    Hello Noe1123,

Can you please amend your forum signature profile to display your system info. Use Coolhandluke41's signature post on your thread as an example.

The evgas manual, for your MB, says that it is suited for DDR3/1600+. Refer to your MB manual for RAM installation and double check that you are indeed using slots # 1 and 3 as recommendeed by OEM. If slots 1 and 3 do not work try slots 2 & 4 and see what happens. The slot numbering on this motherboard is quite peculiar (out of sequence) so make sure that you are inserting sticks in the right slots for dual channel operation.

Please post the Evga part number for your MB as well as the particuliars and settings for your 2 old RAM sticks that do work on your computer.

What BIOS are you using on your motherboard?

That is a very helpful post I will install the sticks how you are telling me in 1 and 3 and then in 2 and 4 and then let you know how that worked.

The bios that I am running (checked in the msinfo32) is :
                      BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. 0407, 3/8/2011

And also the model number for my motherboard is : 120-LF-E650

Edit 1: I tested the gskill RAM in slot 1 and 3 and still got the beeping sound. Then i tried in 2 and 4 and happened again. I used my old sticks and put them in slot 1 and 3 and worked fine, when i tried in slot 2 and 4 they didnt. So maybe slot 4 is bad.. is my guess or like you said before that the motherboard is very picky.

                        Hello Noel,

The BIOS version you provided is the one for the generic software package. This software is then adapted and modified by Evga to suit your motherboard specifically.

The latest Evga BIOS version for your 120-LF-E650 motherboard is dated 8 August 2011 and is titled as version "0407E". Go into you BIOS on initial Boot and/or look at the initial boot screen to find out your BIOS version. Normally holding DEL key on initial boot brings you into BIOS. Check your manual to see what key to use.

Latest Evga BIOS available from http://www.evga.com/support/download/default.aspx

                        Good luck

I downloaded the lates BIOS version as you stated the 0407E, but for some reason it did not update. I ran it as the README file said. I ran the batch file for 64 bit OS, then restarted and on the restart i loaded default settings. Did i do something wrong?

Edit 1: I just restarted it again and went into the BIOS by pressing the DEL key at startup. It says the version of the BIOS is 0407E which is the most recent. For some reason it still says build date as 03/08/11, not the 08/08/11 it should be, soemthing wrong there? If not should I try to load up the Gskill RAM sticks in slot 1 and 3 again now?

                            Hello again Noe,

You have done it. Looks like your motherboard now has the latest "0407E". The 8 Aug 2011 date I gave you is likely the date that it was actually posted to the download server. The 3 Aug 2011 is the actual date that the BIOS built of this version was completed.

Go ahead and try your Gskill sticks now in slot 1 and 3.

From the testing you did on your old sticks it looks like slot 1 and 3 are the only ones that will work with 2 sticks in dual channel.

                            Good luck,

Well I have to report the bad news that it still did not work. I placed the sticks in slot 1 and 3 (where my old ones are currently in and working) and still got the same constant beeping and no boot. Any other suggestions? Or did newegg really send me two bad sticks?
