  • New Acer TimelineX Memory Upgrade Questions

I have a brand new Acer TimelineX AS4830T-6642 that shipped with 4 GB of DDR3 1066. (EDIT...CORRECTION...it seams the system may have shipped with 1333 after all!)
The processor is a second generation Sandy Bridge Intel core i5 2410m. The chipset is the Mobile Intel HM65 express chipset.

According to Acer the memory support is the following:

    "Dual-channel DDR3 SDRAM support:
Up to 4 GB of DDR3 system memory, upgradable to 8 GB using two soDIMM modules."

I am interested in removing the two memory modules the system currently shipped with, and instead replacing both of them and installing two new modules to max out the memory capacity to a full 8 GB.

    I have a few questions.

    A) The system shipped with DDR-3 1066. According to intels site, the i5 2410m processor is capable of 1066 or 1333 memory. If I install 8 GB DDR-3 1333 memory into my new laptop, will they function correctly at full 1333 specification and without any system crashes or blue screens or compromised performance? Or has Acer somehow limited the memory specification strictly to DDR-3 1066?

    B) Would installing DDR-3 1333 consume more power and reduce my battery usage time?

    C) What is the difference between DDR-3 1333 (10600 vs 10666)...I'm assuming 10666 is faster, would I be able to utilize the full speed of either 10600 or 10666?

    D) What if I go beyond DDR-3 1333, how about something like DDR-3 1600?

    E) I have my eyes on the following G.Skill memory:

    "G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB)
    204-Pin
    DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600)
    Laptop Memory Model F3-10600CL9D-8GBSQ "

    OR

    "G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB)
    204-Pin
    DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)
    Laptop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBSQ"

    Or My last option
    "G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB)
    204-Pin
    DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
    Laptop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBSQ"

What is your opinion of the 3 different choices above, and will they all be fully compatible in my system?
    Thanks!

    EDIT:
CORRECTION...it seams the system may have shipped with 1333 after all and not 1066.

    A) Should support DDR3-1333 just fine. Generally laptop manufacturers ship with one "speed" slower.

    B) No, it is the same voltage.

    C) It is a slight difference in chip configuration, but your laptop should support 10666 just fine.

    D) Depending on BIOS, it may downclock to DDR3-1333 if it does not support DDR3-1600

    E) F3-10666CL9D-8GBSQ would be best

    Thank you
