  • question about what ram to get

Ok, so im putting together a new build and i want to be 100% positive the ram i get will have no issues with my motherboard/cpu

the motherboard im getting is ASUS M4A79XTD EVO AM3 AMD 790X... found at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131402

the CPU im getting is AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb... found at
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103727

Ok i want to eventually put in 16gigs for ram (i know its overkill... but i figure why not) so im planning on using 4 x 4 gig sticks of ram. my main question is what ram is best for the board/cpu combination

    im either going with

    G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL... found at
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231314

    or

    G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBRL... found at
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231311

i can get the ddr3 1600 cheaper from a friend who baught extras planning on using 16gigs but decided not to, so a speedy reply is very helpfull so i dont have to keep him waiting.

thanks for the time and help.

Go ahead and get it from your friend. That kit will work just fine. Use the guide we have available (sticky) and the system should work great. Let us know if you have problems.

    Thank you

so just wondering but if i didnt follow that guide would it still work just like normal 1333 ram listed above? or do i really have to fidle with it or is there a chance that i wont have to touch it seeing as that board supports 1600 ram without overclocking according to all the specs on asus's site and newegg's site.

its going to be a few weeks untill i have the money for the rest of my build... im ordering it in custom bundles... like first order since im getting the ram from my friend will just be CPU/mobo/dvd drive... im using the parts from my older machine with the new parts untill i can afford the other upgrades i want

also since im getting this NEW from a friend, will it still be covered under warrenty?

Your motherboard and CPU won't support 1600 automatically, so settings are highly recommended. It only takes 2 minutes anyway, especially when you have great help here.

Depending on the profiles in the memory, it can default to 1333 or 1600. If it defaults to 1333, then it will be fine. It will run like the other kit. If it defaults to 1600, then your system will be unstable. Then you will need to set DDR3-1333 or DDR3-1600 settings to be perfectly stable.

Warranty is transferrable, so that's part of the reason I suggested getting it from your friend. His price should be lower than new.

        Thank you

well i decided on using a diffrent MOBO... considering some of the reviews i have read on the other one i had posted before... im going with a ASUS M4A87TD EVO AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard... found at
          http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131647

its only 5$ more expensive and still supports the 1600 ram without overclocking... so im i just wanted to make sure the 1600 ram will work fine in it.

You still need to use our guide to set up DDR3-1600 though, it is not as simple as plug and play.

Luckily you have us, so we can help should you need it.

                Thank you
