  • Best 2x4 kit for high o'clock 1090T/M4A89TD?

I need some advice. I've just abt gone blind reading ram posts & egg reviews trying to determine the best GSkill kit for overclocking the 1090T I'm buying with an Asus M4A89TD Pro/USB3. I've have a fair amount of o'clocking experience, but I'm a tad rusty as my last rig was built a couple yrs ago (Phenom X2 550 @3.8GHz/F3-12800CL9D-4BGNQ).

This machine has good Swiftech water cooling, with luck I should get the 1090T to 4GHz+ on this board. I don't want that clock to be constrained by the ram. I need 8GB. Asus recommends populating the A1/B1 slots for best clocking, so my plan is 2x4 sticks. (This is not a gaming system; it's a dev wkstn).

I know about the Flares designed specifically for this board/chip, but a 2x4 is not avail. However, the low CAS DDR1800 Flares has me thinking that I might do best with either at least lower CAS DDR1600 than the typical CL9 and/or a higher DDR. I've kinda narrowed it down to the following, and would really appreciate your recommendations:

    F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM
    F3-12800CL7D-8GBRH
    F3-12800CL7D-8GBXH
    F3-14900CL9D-8GBXL
    F3-16000CL9D-8GBRM

While I need to keep the cost under $200, it's fine to pay some extra bucks for a kit that does the best job without a hassle.

And btw, is the "X" series just a diff in the spreaders, and is there any additional functional
    value with that series?

For years now I've only used GSkill in our machines, want to continue that tradition.

    Thanks much in advance.

One of these would be best:

    F3-12800CL7D-8GBRH
    F3-12800CL7D-8GBXH
    (Whichever is cheaper)

    or this one..

    F3-16000CL9D-8GBRM

The RipJaws X is most beneficial for P67 platforms, but with your AMD, any of these would work great.

    Thank you

Thank you very much for your quick reply. As usual, GSkill service is the best!

I've decided to go with the F3-16000CL9D-8GBRM. I realize that the 12800's lower latency enables it to perform on par with the 16000 at its rated CAS 9, but there's a chance I can lower the CAS on the 16000 and still keep a clock over 1600 given I'm using a Thuban/890FX and the sticks have more voltage headroom. So I think the 16000 gives me the best clocking flexibility, and will be good to match up with another of the same when needed (although I won't get quite as good a clock with all slots filled). Heck, may even do for the Bulldozer in my future!

And I only later realized these are lower profile - should fit perfectly under my ram fan coolers, too!

      Thanks again!
