I need some advice. I've just abt gone blind reading ram posts & egg reviews trying to determine the best GSkill kit for overclocking the 1090T I'm buying with an Asus M4A89TD Pro/USB3. I've have a fair amount of o'clocking experience, but I'm a tad rusty as my last rig was built a couple yrs ago (Phenom X2 550 @3.8GHz/F3-12800CL9D-4BGNQ).
This machine has good Swiftech water cooling, with luck I should get the 1090T to 4GHz+ on this board. I don't want that clock to be constrained by the ram. I need 8GB. Asus recommends populating the A1/B1 slots for best clocking, so my plan is 2x4 sticks. (This is not a gaming system; it's a dev wkstn).
I know about the Flares designed specifically for this board/chip, but a 2x4 is not avail. However, the low CAS DDR1800 Flares has me thinking that I might do best with either at least lower CAS DDR1600 than the typical CL9 and/or a higher DDR. I've kinda narrowed it down to the following, and would really appreciate your recommendations:
F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM
F3-12800CL7D-8GBRH
F3-12800CL7D-8GBXH
F3-14900CL9D-8GBXL
F3-16000CL9D-8GBRM
While I need to keep the cost under $200, it's fine to pay some extra bucks for a kit that does the best job without a hassle.
And btw, is the "X" series just a diff in the spreaders, and is there any additional functional
value with that series?
For years now I've only used GSkill in our machines, want to continue that tradition.
Thanks much in advance.
