  • Upgrading computer need help with RAM

Hi, I am going to upgrade my computers operating system to windows 7 because all of the latest games that are going to be released are not going to be playable on XP and was also going to upgrade my RAM and i was wondering these things:

    1) At the moment i have a Gskill Tri channel 3Gb kit (http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=105) and was wondering if this RAM (http://www.gskill.com/products.php?i...BDTDhULTZHQlJN) is compatible with it so i would be able to run with 9Gb of RAM?

    2) If thats not possible due to different speeds/series etc. i would also like to know which Tri channel kit would have better performance out of the aforementioned Ripjaws kit or a 12Gb kit that has a speed of 1333MHz (http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=264).

    3) Or even if that 12Gb kit would work with my current RAM

I have a Intel i7 Nehalem 920 2.66Ghz processor and a Asus Sabretooth X58 motherboard that has 6 RAM slots.

    Thanks

Mixing any two sets of DRAM can be difficult, though here it might even be much harder as different models, different speed, different base CL if trying to mate them to work.

To go to a 12GB kit, think I'd suggest the F3-12800CL9T-12GBSR set...it's native 1600 9-9-9-24 so you can run it 1600, or (you mentioned 1333) you could take this set and run 1333 with prob a tight 7-7-7-21, which would be same speed/timings as the 12GB F3-10666CL7T-12GBRH set for about $20 less. It's also only about $13 more than a like 1333 CL9 set; F3-10666CL9T-12GBRL

For guaranteed performance, the G.Skill F3-10666CL7T-12GBRH would be best.
