  • Memory overclocking problems

    Hi.

    I have 2x4GB DDR3-1333 G.skill and an Intel i5-760 on a MSI P55-GD65.

With everything default (bclock 133) the mobo sets the ram to 1333 MHz 9-9-9-24-1T 1.5v and it runs perfectly.
So, this isn't a problem with the ram not doing what it's supposed to.

I have the system overclocked with bclock 182 MHz and cpu 4 GHz with VTT at 1.154v.
When I was finding those settings I had the ram set to a 2:3 ratio from the 2:5 default, and the ram was fine throughout.

However, my goal for the ram was ~1456 MHz (182x8), since my mobo only has 2:3, 2:4, and 2:5 ratios available.

I set the ratio to 2:4, bclock to 150 MHz, and timings 9-9-9-24-2T 1.645v.
I was able to bring the bclock up to 166 MHz stably (DDR3-1328).
Trying 170 MHz (DDR3-1360) the system will fail any of Memtest86+/Intel Burn Test/Prime95 blend.
I kept raising VTT from 1.154v until I hit 1.236v, and each time it failed.

    I curently have the ram stable at 7-8-7-20-2T 1.550v with a 2:3 ratio (DDR3-1092).

I would rather have the ram running faster with looser timings, so what I was wondering was if this was normal for this ram.

    Thanks for any help.

What sticks do you have, there's a number of different ones in the 1333/2x4GB range? Also, do you have the latest BIOS? Could also check the CPU, make sure it's in correct and no thermal compound seeped under the edge into the socket.

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

      Sorry, I didn't realize that.

I have two 4 GB sticks in slots 1 and 3.

Here's exactly what I bought: Newegg

I do have the latest bios: A7583IMS.1A0

      Edit-----------------

      The CPU is set correctly.
It has been running for a couple of months with low temperatures.
Also, I apply very little thermal compound, <= grain of rice; and I don't see any seepage.

Anything better than DDR3-1333 9-9-9-24 requires more voltage. So make sure you do that. If the system is unable to be stable, you may want to try another kit to see if it can overclock better.

        Thank you
