    Well, it turns out the problem was extremely simple, after all. I was using the wrong version of memtest86. I switched to v4.2 from v4.0 and (two hours later) finished the test with no errors.

    I am still having issues, but will post on a more appropriate thread - perhaps the sticky - as the issue apparently is not bad memory.
