  • One of my Ram is dead

Hello all hows it going. It looks like one of my ram is dead F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL. When I insert both ram into my motherboard which is a p8p67 deluxe b3 with a i7-2600k processor i noticed the memok button was showing I tried pressing it but it wouldn't post. I then took out one slot of ram and it posted. I then took out the slot of ram that worked and put the other in and the red dram led came up. I then tried the memok button but nothing happened. I tried the ram in another slot same issue. I put back in the good ram and I am now rnning my system with only 1 of the 2 ram. I am 85% sure that the 2nd ram is faulty. I have not updated my bios yet because I was unsure if it would be worth it since I tested the ram in the same slot.

So it looks like I will have to rma the ram. Can I RMA only the dead ram or does g skill only take sets? I ask this because if i send both I will have no ram to use with my computer. Or does G skill offer something like they send me a set first and when I receive it I send mine in?

You can contact GSkill through rma@gskillusa.com or rma@gskill.com, info is available at

    http://www.gskill.com/rma.php

Normally they RMA a single stick, but it's usually best to do the pair so your sure to get a set that plays well together.

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

Aren't they all the same specs cept different serial number? Do they offer the option of sending me good sticks first then i send dead ones? I just don't want to have to wait a week or so and not be able to use my computer at all

Same specs yes, but especially if made from different lots of components, there can be microscopic differences between sticks where they won't play well together, the same is true of all DRAM manufacturers, which is why DRAM is most often sold in different amounts of sticks and total GBs, as sets they are tested to work together. If perusing the boards you'll run into numerous posts where people have bought a set and then picked up another set and had problems....they can normally be worked out with slight voltage adjustments, but not always

Hmm I see but can you answer my previous question about them shipping me first? Or should I just contact the rma department directly?

I got this reply from mailing them

            Dear customer,

            Sorry for the inconvenience.

You can only replace the defective to us, we will find the same chipset for you.

Please fill out the RMA form and send to me, I will arrange RMA for you.

I am not sure what is meant by you can only replace the defective to us? and we will find the same chipset for you?? Does it mean I should only send in only the 1 bad ram? CAn someone please explain this before I send the rma form?

Also in the rma form it asks for original invoice #. I bought the ram at a retail store and I got a receipt so what do I put there? Also it asks for state but I live in Canada should I change it to province? Also where is the serial # located?

It is best the send the entire kit so you can get a new kit back, but if you MUST avoid down time, we do accept single modules.

                Thank you

Yes, once you email us the RMA Request Form, we will send you further details on procedure.

Tradesman listed the RMA info above.

                    Thank you

Hello I got the procedure but I have no actually mailed a package before. Do I just go to UPS or another courier and tell them to package my ram and mail it to the address I was told. Also I know that I am suppose to include the RMA # in the package just not sure how shipping works. Also will I have to pay for g skill to ship the ram back to me?

You will need to put it in a box or bubble envelope, write the address and RMA number on the package. Also, make sure to include a copy of the RMA form. Then you can go to UPS, USPS, or wherever and let them know you need to ship it with a tracking number.

Through the post office, USPS, request First Class w / Delivery Confirmation.

This is the cheapest method, and it has a tracking number. For shipping back to you, we will cover that.

                        Thank you
