  • ASUS Sabertooth x58 1066 vs 1333 problem

    Hello,

I've completed my build using the i7-970 processor and have installed the following G.SKILL SDRAM:

    G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9T-12GBRL

Into the ASUS Sabertooth X58 Motherboard (version 708 BIOS)

ASUS Sabertooth X58 LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

I have Windows 7 Professional 64 as the OS on an OCZ Vertex 2 SSD Drive. 3.5" 120 GB

I installed everything, applied power, went into the BIOS to check memory settings. The BIOS had set everything to "AUTO" and I noticed that the target DRAM frequency had been set at 1066 MHz instead of the rated 1333. I went to the DRAM frequency option and changed it to 1333. I booted into windows 7 and my system reports only 8 gb memory. I then changed it back to "AUTO". The ASUS board reports the following timings. Can someone confirm these are correct?

Here are the numbers for 1st Information
    9-9-9-24-4-107-10-7-20-0

    2nd Information
    1N-47-0-50

    3rd Information
    5-5-16-10-10-11-7-6-4-7-7-4

Also, I'd really like to run a testing program on the memory to make sure it is healthy. Can someone recommend a free utility I could run on my memory?

Make sure you manually set everything. For example, timings may default to 9-9-9-24, but still manually set them.

    DDR3-1333
    9-9-9-24
    1.50V

If you have Win 7, type "mem" under the Start menu, and it will prompt you for the memory diagnostics test. For a stress test to test settings, Prime95 is a freeware that is sufficient.

    Thank you

Thank you for your help. Can you re-check your specs for the memory you think I have? I have 1333.

Also, Where do I manually enter in the voltage? Here are some options:

      CPU Voltage Control
      CPU Voltage
      CPU PLL Voltage
      QPI/DRAM Core Voltage
      IOH Voltage
      IOH PCIE Voltage
      ICH Voltage
      ICH PCIE Voltage
      DRAM Bus Voltage
DRAM DATA REF Voltage on CHA
DRAM CTRL REF Voltage on CHA
DRAM DATA REF Voltage on CHB
DRAM CTRL REF Voltage on CHB
DRAM DATA REF Voltage on CHC
DRAM CTRL REF Voltage on CHC

Is it the QPI/DRAM Core Voltage?

        DRAM Bus Voltage 1.50V

The rest are fine on AUTO.

        Thank you
