  • F3-12800CL7D-4GBRM & M4A87TD EVO problem solved

    I had serious problems with my new computer (frequent BSOD`s, freezing etc.)
    I am no good with computers so I red this and other forums in order to get some help.

    What I did was:
    - Ran Memtest+ for 12 hours => no error messages
    - Updated BIOS
    - Updated all drivers
    - Reinstalled Win7
    - Tried to configure BIOS settings manually (1333MHz-8-8-8-24) and AUTO

    => BSOD`s continued until I set Ai Overclock tuner to D.O.C.P.
    Now computer is running solid with 1600MHz-9-9-9-24

    I Have not tried to set tighter timings or change anything after that

    I have no idea why this D.O.C.P. setting worked for me.

    SPECS:
    G.Skill F3-12800CL7D-4GBRM X2
    Asus M4A87TD-EVO
    AMD Phenom II X4 965BE
    Club-3D Ati Radeon HD 5770
    Western Digital 1TB Caviar Black
    Corsair 500W CX Builder Series
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

      Did you try the sticky instructions? One of the top threads is about AMD CPU + G.Skill 1600...

        Tried

        Yes I tried that too.

        I tried manually these settings:

        DRAM Frequency DDR3-1333
        CPU Host/Bus Frequency to 240
        Timings 7-8-7-24
        DRAM Voltage to 1.60V

        These settings worked couple of hours, then BSOD.

          Why dont set it at 9-9-9-24?
          You need to raise CPU/NB Voltage a little bit. I raised it to 1.15V and is working for me (haven't stressed out yet).

            Do you have 4GB or 8GB? Try raising CPU-NB Voltage to 1.20V

            Thank you

              jdtfk..... I set it 7-8-7-24 because that is what they are made for, will try 9-9-9-24 later.

              GSKILL TECH.....Ihave 8 GB. I will try to raise CPU-NB voltage to 1.20 V.

                Oh, I see, I thought it was 9-9-9-24
                Stick to the timings your RAM was made for.

                  I adjusted settings:

                  Timings 8-8-8-24
                  Dram voltage 1.6 V
                  Dram Frequency 1333 MHz
                  CPU/NB voltage 1.2 V

                  Has worked fine for 2 hours now. Tested with PerformanceTest 7.0 and got PassMark overall rating 2021 and Memory mark 1508. I am going to play some BFBC2 and see how it goes.

                      BSOD`s with these settings:

                      Timings 8-8-8-24
                      Dram voltage 1.6 V
                      Dram Frequency 1333 MHz
                      CPU/NB voltage 1.2 V

                      I tested 2 of 4 memory modules separately with memtest86+. One module was tested (slot A1 used) for 8 hours and gave 16 passes 0 errors. Second module was tested (slot A2 used) for 4 hours and gave 8 passes 0 errors.

                      DRAM settings were 533 MHz, 7-7-7-20, Dram voltage 1,6 V and CPU NB voltage mode was offset and voltages AUTO.

                      I will test last two modules and slots B1 and B2 later today.

                      I have also tried to stress drivers, but they are updated and fine.

                        Tested 2 last modules with memtest and first was fine (4hours 30 minutes, 9 passes 0 errors)
                        Second test lasted 1 hour 27 minutes and gave 3 passes and 27392 errors (slot B2).

                        So module or slot is damaged?

                        I tried to stress "damaged" module in different slot for 27 minutes and it gave 1 pass 0 errors. Then I tried to stress slot B2 for 29 minutes with other memory module and it gave 1 pass 0 errors. So this test was inconclusive.

                        I have to stress that particular module and B2 slot for longer time.

                          G.Skill ripjaws F3-12800CL7D-4GBRM, so I have 4 2 GB modules. They are consecutive serial numbers with last three digits 245, 246, 247 and 248.

                          I have Asus M4A87TD-EVO mobo, 4 DIMM slots: A1, A2, B1, B2. A1 and B1 is channel 1 and A2 and B2 is channel 2.

                          So far I have tested them individually:

                          module 248 in A1 slot: 8 hours 13 minutes => 16 passes 0 errors
                          module 245 in A2 slot: 4 hours 8 minutes => 8 passes 0 errors
                          module 247 in B1 slot: 4 hours 30 minutes => 9 passes 0 errors
                          module 246 in B2 slot: 1 hour 27 minutes => 3 passes 27392 errors

                          module 246 in A1 slot: 7 hours 51 minutes => 16 passes 9728 errors
                          module 247 in B2 slot: 2 hours 40 minutes => 5 passes 0 errors

                          Is it correct conclusion that module 246 is damaged and slot B2 is fine?

                          I still wonder why Memtest86+ shows DRAM frequencies in B1 and B2 slots (200 MHz, DDR400) but in A1 and A2 slots (666 MHz, DDR1333).

                            246?

                            Sounds like you may have a bad stick, but also may be a mobo problem with the disparate reading of the same sticks from slot to slot. Do you have the latest BIOS? Also which version of Memtest86 are you using, ver 3.5a is available here:

                              I have newest BIOS version 1102 dated 12/09/2010.
                              I used Memtest86+ version 4.20
