  • M4A89GTD-PRO/USB3 - F3-10666CL7-2GBRH, need settings help!!!

    System:

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition
    ASUS M4A89GTD-PRO/USB3
    G.Skill F3-10666CL7-2GBRH

    Settings:

I started with the default settings and got system lockups in game play. I then moved the CPU/NB voltage to 1.2 and still got lockups. I then changed the DRAM voltage to 1.6, same problems. Next, the timings were set to 8-8-8-24, no luck. I then manually set the NB freq to 2400Mhz, same issues.

Can someone shed some light on the exact settings I should have in my bios for this thing to work?

I just updated to the lastest bios. the new bios does auto provision my mem at 9-9-9-24 now, instead of 7-7-7-21. I left it at 9 and still locked up.

I ran memtest for 1.5hrs, not a single error.

    running prime95 now...

prime95 ran for hours, no errors.

I downgraded my ATI drivers from 11.x to 10.x, played 3 maps of battlefield, no lockups! seems like that was maybe my problem all along.

I would still like to know the best setttings for my mem/mobo. right now I am at...

        3.4Ghz
        17x multiplier
        200Mhz bus
        2000Mhz HT link

        NB freq 2000Mhz
        NB volt 1.2
        DRAM freq 668.9Mhz
        DRAM volt 1.5
        9-9-9-24-33-1T

Looks real good as is, and with 1T even better, wouldn't play w/ them...but if you do, make sure you notate all current settings for fallback

            NB@ 2400-2600MHz with 1.25-1.275v CPU/NB voltage should do it.
No need to OC the HT Link speed, keep it in the 2000-2200MHz range.
And the 965 should hit 3.8GHz easily, no need to OC it any higher unless running benchmarks.

should I try to go back to the 7-7-7-21 settings? not sure why the new bios auto discovers it as 9-9-9-24 now.

All motherboards discover 9-9-9-24 on AUTO settings...

                Thank you

hmm, I think what I meant to say is I have it set for 1333Mhz, but it discovers it at 9-9-9-24. let me verify this tonight to be sure. maybe after the bios update it reset and I forgot to put it back at 1333.

I definitely have the DRAM set to 1333mhz in the bios but the settings are coming out to 9-9-9-24. prior to the bios update, it would set it at 7-7-7-21 (the spec of the memory). should I set this all by hand? what about all the other values for the memory settings?

Change the base timings manually to the 7-7-7-21

should I make it 1T or 2N? what about all the other DRAM timing numbers besides the 7-7-7-21?

Check CPU-Z under the SPD tab and see what the Command Rate is for the XMP profile.
Also check the tRC value, then manually enter it in your bios.
You can leave all other memory settings on auto.

it says 7-7-7-23-31-2T. the mem spec is 21, not 23, is it worth changing that or just leave it at the XMP profile value?
