  • memory problem?

    First, system information:
    Win7 Ultimate 64-bit, Asus M4A79XTD EVO w/updated BIOS, AMD Phenom X3 435, fourth core activated, 4Gig G Skill DDR3 PC12800, Radeon 4830 512Meg, Samsung HD502 HD

System is about a year old.

Win7 memory test utility advises me to "consult my manufacturer" - I am the builder. No report is ever generated to advise on which module, or both, is the problem.

Prime95 crashes in five seconds. The whole OS goes down dead.
So do I have a memory problem? And am I within the warranty period on this product?
    Please advise.

    Did you input memory settings?

    DRAM Frequency DDR3-1333
    CPU Host/Bus Frequency 240
    DRAM Timings 9-9-9-24
    DRAM Voltage 1.50V
    CPU-NB Voltage +0.1V

You can also test one at a time to see if one is bad causing the problem.

    Thank you

      are you still there??

I posted back and never received a reply.
In the meantime I found the information I asked you for and manually set the memory to the correct specs. You provided incorrect information for the product I identified.
Setting the timings manually made it the problems worse. My OS is now corrupted and it will probably need a complete re-install.

Both modules are defective and fail the Microsoft memory test as well as MemTest and Prime 95.

Please provide a RMA number so I can return these defective products.

      Thanks

Posted back where? There are only three posts, and this is the fourth.

The settings provided are correct, except with yoru CPU, you may need to lower the CPU Ratio. Your CPU can not support the overclock with AUTO settings.

Please refer to this sticky for instructions:

        http://www.gskill.us/forum/showthread.php?t=7688

OS may seem corrupted with incorrect memory settings. If you want to avoid the overclock and just want your memory to work, input settings DDR3-1333 8-8-8-24 1.50V and it should work flawlessly.

        Thank you

still no luck - and even worse

          OK, I set as follows:
          DRAM Frequency: 1333
CPU Host/Bus Frequency 200 (same as auto)
          DRAM Timings 8-8-8-24
          DRAM Voltage 1.50V
CPU-NB Voltage 0.8000 (same as auto)
I ran the Windows Memory Test and was told I had problems and to consult my manufacturer.

          Second try
          DRAM Frequency 1333
          CPU Host/Bus Frequency 200
          DRAM Timings 8-8-8-24
          DRAM Voltage 1.50V
          CPU-NB Voltage 0.8125V - gave this a "nudge"

          Disaster.
No POST - no nothing. I will need to pull the battery now to clear this setting and get a POST - unless you know another method of booting?

Do you still believe this memory isn't faulty??

It appears to be, just making sure to save you hassle.

The first settings should work without a problem. If one module at a time does not POST, then send them in for RMA to see if a new kit works better.

Note: CPU-NB Voltage is default/minimum 0.8000V, the actual voltage is higher, so this can be left to AUTO detection for the DDR3-1333 settings.

              Rma?

Aren't you going to give me an RMA number? The package will be rejected without it.

I wish I knew someone with a computer that uses DDR3 so I could do one more test, but I don't think the motherboard is bad. There would have been other unpleasant problems.

I need to return both, so please authorize the RMA for two.
              Thank You.
