  • Question about G.Skill Trident

Hi, I am new here on G.Skill Forum. I wanted to ask if I can use a quad channel g.skill trident ram on my triple channel MSI X big Bang Power MB. I want to buy G.SKILL Trident+ Turbulence II 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7T-12GBTDD but it is out of stock for a very long time.. I have all my new parts for the build but the ram is the only thing that is holding me back. So i want to purchase a G.SKILL Trident+ Turbulence II 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7Q-16GBTDD and instead of using 4 ram i would just use 3 of it or can i use all 4? Would it still work perfectly? I am just in a rush and want to build this computer asap so i dont care if i spend a little extra money.

I have a question about CAS Latency. Is 7-8-7-24 faster than 8-9-8-24. On newegg the 8-9-8-24 cost a lot more. Is it the lower the Latency the faster it is? Thanks for you time and I hope you can answer these questions. thanks

MSI indicates you could use 4 sticks by populating Slots 1,2,3 & 5 (manual page 2.8)

With DRAM of the same speed the lower the timings the faster, i.e. in easy terms CL7 will do an operation in 7 clicks while CL8 takes 8, thus lowering your timings is considered tightening while raising the CL/timing is considered loosening (or relieving stress on the sticks). Tighten = OC

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

So the xpower big bang is a triple channel. Would it be okay to get the g.skill trident 16gb quad kit?

I just reread your post and I'm sorry I read it wrong. So I can use a quad kit if I install them in 1, 2, 3, & 5 right? And it would work perfectly? I was winding by did the g.skill trident cl 8 cost more then cl 7?

Yes, you can use the 16GB kit.

CL7 is faster, but DDR3-1600. The CL8 is probably DDR3-2000.

          Thank you
