  • Cold Boot problem - F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL + MSI P55-GD55

Been trying to find an answer to this, and everything seems to point to the RAM.
Computer cannot cold boot. At most, it will boot into Windows, then either restart or BSOD. Sometimes it won't even make it that far before it BSODs

However, after initial cold boot, turn it off, turn it back on, and it will work perfectly.

    Configuration:
    Motherboard: MSI P55-GD55
    CPU: Core i5 750
    Memory: F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL (2x2GB)
    HDD: G.Skill Falcon II 64GB, Samsung F3 1TB
    PS: Antec EarthWatts 430W
    Video Card: ATI 3870 x2

    Things i've tried
    • Motherboard has been RMA'd
    • PSU has been RMA'd and new one tested
    • Tried a different PSU - OCZ 1000W
    • RAM has been tried in all slots, both blue and both black
    • only ONE stick of RAM only
    • memory timings set to: 9-9-9-24 1333
    • enabling XMP
    • enabling XMP + OC Genie
    • Latest Bios 1.7 and older bios 1.6

Any help/ideas would be much appreciated.

If RMA is req'd, what is the process for a Canadian?

      BIOS Settings:

Tried multiple settings, they include, but not limited to...
      1) optimized defaults
      2) fail safe defaults
      3) combination of 1/2 with XMP, OC Genie
      4) RAM manually set to 8-8-8-24 @ 1333
      5) setting SATA controller to AHCI
      6) disabling all the CPU features
      7) pretty much any of the above combinations

Please bear in mind, that I must wait 3+ hours before testing since it's a cold boot issue.

However, i have since fixe the problem by purchasing 1x4GB 1333 RAM. I put these two sticks in a Asus P7H55-M LE.

So, if anyone has troubles with the combination of F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL + MSI P55-GD55, i would highly recommend using a different piece of RAM.

In regards to the RAM being faulty, they passed full memtest without any errors, both with one piece and two pieces.

Please send the memory in for RMA and the new kit should work better.
