  • Adding onto F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ

Motherboard : ASUS M4A78T-E AM3 AMD 790GX HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard
    CPU : AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ965FBGMBOX
    Memory : G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ

I guess my first question is whether I can add a pair of memory modules that aren't advertised as dual channel to this setup, and if that's a bad thing to do.

I see that newegg.com has a couple of advertised specials that look pretty good and I want to go the best route.

    49.99
    G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL

    89.99
    G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBRL

    64.99
another set just like the ones I have would put me at 8GB and costs
    G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ

Anybody care to offer some advice? I'm just not that up on dual channel.

If the kit has two modules, they should be dual channel. All three kits you listed are compatible, and they are all dual channel kits. Although for the DDR3-1600 kits, you may need to raise CPU-NB Voltage +0.1V since your CPU natively supports DDR3-1333 max.

    Thank you

      Manual

so do I need to change that to 1.6 even with just the two that I have?

      What should my settings be?

Not if your system is currently stable (i.e. no random crashes, BSODs, etc), although it won't hurt anything and might run a tick faster if you do

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

Either set the DRAM Voltage to 1.60V and leave CPU-NB Voltage AUTO
          or
Set DRAM Voltage 1.50V, and CPU-NB Voltage 1.15V-1.20V.

          Thank you
