  • Help with new build problems please !!

    Hi guys.
I'm having problems with a new build. The component list is:
    EVGA X58 SLI Micro motherboard
    i7 920 DO retail processor
    GSKILL F3-16000CL9T-6GBTD memory kit
WD 750GB Caviar Black hard drive
    Saffire Vapor-X HD5770 graphics card
    Enermax Infiniti 720W PSU

My problem is that after assembling the PC it hangs on the b8 post code with all 3 RAM sticks in place. If I use just 2 sticks it boots fine and loads Windows (WIN764).
I've memtested each individual stick and they have passed, with bios settings at default.
I'm thinking that the bios settings need to be adjusted to suit the GSKILL RAM but I don't know where to start. I'm not looking to overclock at this stage, just get all 3 sticks up and running.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated
    Thanks, Rob.

I'm not familiar with your motherboard, but with an odd number (3) of memory sticks and what you described, the first thing that comes to mind is that your mobo is attempting to run memory in dual channel. First thing I would check is to make sure the triple channel setting is enabled in your BIOS. Then I would check to make sure the sticks were in the correct slots for triple channel.

Hi. After setting the memory frequency @ 1600, all 3 sticks were recognized in bios and passed memtest. I'm now memtesting @ 1867 2:14.
Hopefully one of the Gurus here will post the complete recommended bios settings for this memory with my board.
      Cheers, Rob.

I'd run Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool as well. My own personal experience is that the WMDT caught issues that memtest86 did not.

Hi GSKILL TECH, Can you give me the base settings for a F3-16000CL9T-6GBTD kit with an EVGA X58 SLI Micro motherboard.
I guess I'm going to have to overclock to use the memory properly.
Will 3.0GHZ be enough or should I start at 3.2GHZ ??
            Thanks in advance, Rob.
