  • Setup on an Asus Rampage II Gene with 3x F3-12800CL7D-4GBRM

    Just sharing my experience:

I have not tried with any less than 12GB in my setup (Core i7 920)
at 1.28V Vcore my CPU seems to be limited at 4GHz.
    at 1.30V 4.1GHz

The 12GB are stable up until
    7-7-7-21 1400MHz at VDIMM=1.63V and QPI=1.31V
    8-8-8-24 1440MHz at VDIMM=1.65V and QPI=1.325V

I was unable to get anything stable above 1440MHz although I went by 5MHz BLCK increments.
I tried uping the voltage to 1.68V and loosening the timings to 9-9-9-28 but it is a no go.

This forces me to run at 3.78Ghz on my CPU right now.

I am wondering if I would get better results with a F3-12800CL7T2-12GBPI kit.
    Any thoughts?

    Merry X'mas

What are your advanced timings set to? i.e. tRC, tRFC, etc. SHould be able to do better than 1440.

As to your question though, the Ripjaws you have are a better bet performance wise than the PIs.

      Thanks for the input

I left everything else on auto which gets me the following:
      Cas Latency 8
      Ras to Cas 8
      Ras Pre time 8
      Ras ACT time 24
      Ras to Cas Delay 4
      Ref Cycle time 74
      Write recover time 11
      Read to Pre 7
      Four ACT WIN Time 20
Back to Back Cas# Delay 0

      Timing Mode 2N
Dram Round Trip Latency CHA 53
      CHB 56
      CHC 57

      WR DD 6
      WR DR 6
      WR SR 16
      RW DD 9
      RW DR 9
      RW SR 9
      RR DD 7
      RR DR 6
      RR SR 4
      WW DD 7
      WW DR 7
      WW SR 4

The rest of the setup currently stable is:
      BCLK 180
      CPU Ratio 21
      Turbo Power Limit Enabled
      DRAM at 1443MHz
      UCLK 2887MHz
      QPI Data rate 6496MT/s
      EPU II full phase
      CPU Load line calibration Enabled
      CPU Diff Amp Auto

      CPU Voltage 1.275V
      PLL Voltage 1.85567V
QPI/DRAM 1.35V (tried at 1.31V no difference observed bumped it up to be safe with the DRAM Voltage)
      IOH 1.19V
      ICH 1.18V
      DRAM Bus 1.64356V

Is there anything I am doing wrong?

a quick update, I found out that after further testing, my 1440MHz setting was unstable. This RAM does not seem to run 8-8-8-24 on my motherboard for some reason. I was able to run th BCLK to 178MHz and RAM at 1428MHz at 7-7-7-21. A change in timing cas 8 with this setup causes the system to fail Intelburntest. How is it possible?

Have you tried testing each stick individually w/ memtest? Also might try the base timings at spec of 7-8-7-24, Command Timing at 2T or 2N with voltage at 1.6 (put all timings, etc in manually, don't use AUTO)

I just did try the 7-8-7-24 settings at 178MHz with the exact same voltages... It crashes Intelburtest. (I use the high stress level setting with 8 threads not auto). This is really weird. I just reverted back to 7-7-7-21 and now it runs fine!

I did not try each stick individually. I have 6 of them... It will take me a while

After hours of troubleshooting and swapping sticks and slots, I finally came to the conclusion that I have 2 bad sticks which are unable to run at 7-8-7-24 or 8-8-8-14 even at 1428MHz with 1.65V. One fails memtest86+ in test 2 and the other fails in test 3. Without these two sticks I am now able to test 1524MHz at 8-8-8-24. Should I fill out a form for RMA?
