  • F3-12800CL7D-4GBRH @ 2000MHz?

    System Specs:

    ASUS P7P55D Deluxe
    Intel Core i5 750
    G.Skill F3-12800CL7D-4GBRH

I went with that set of ram because of the low timings and it was listed in the qualified RAM for my MB. I also misunderstood the manual and didn't know I would be able to run DDR3-2000MHz with this CPU. By the time I realized I could have gone with DDR3-2000MHz it was too late. It turns out the G.Skill DDR3 2000 4GB kit is listed too, but under the list of ram for 2.8GHz and 2.93GHz CPUs.

I've spent the past couple of days getting the voltage and settings right to get the CPU stable. I can get it to 4GHz, but it runs too hot, so I've settled for 3.8GHz. I'm using 19x200 so I can set the RAM to 1600MHz. With 20x190 I either have to run it at 1520MHz or 1900MHz. I left the RAM at the recommended settings of 1600MHz @ 7-7-7-24 while ran torture tests on it.

Now that I have the CPU Prime95 stable for 2 hours, I've decided to play with the RAM. I'm betting that the 1600 CL7 RAM is the same as the 2000 CL9 RAM. I ran Memtest with them set to at 1900MHz @ 8-8-8-24 and 2000MHz @ 9-9-9-24 and they ran two passes without errors. When I ran the last Prime95 torture test tonight using 2000MHz 9-9-9-24, it stopped one thread after a while saying 0 Errors 100 Warnings.

I just now looked up the G.Kill 4GB DDR3-2000 kits and noticed their timings are 9-9-9-27 and I was using 9-9-9-24. I guess I should try those timings next, but I need sleep and can't sit through more Prime95 stress tests. I'm posting this in hopes of having some tips when I wake up on how to get the DDR3-1600 7-7-7-24 kit to run at DDR3-2000. Will boosting the voltage from 1.6 to 1.65 help, or should I stick with playing with the timings?

I'd try the 9-9-9-27 first and if any problems, then try boosting the voltage, not positive but I believe they use different IC's on the 2000 sticks, so you might run into a heat problem w/ the OC. If they don't pop in this PM, GSkill should be around Monday and be able to clarify on the IC's.

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

I let it run overnight at 9-9-9-27 and it didn't get the warnings. Prime95 ran for 3:15 before it got an error, but I don't it's the RAM. I think I still need to dial in the CPU voltage. Previously it would error out at 5 min, then I got up to 45 min, then when the last test ran for 2 hours I thought I had it. I've dropped the RAM down to 1200 @ 9-9-9-24 and I'm back to playing with the CPU voltage. My goal is to get it to run overnight without any errors. Then I'll put the RAM in at 1600 @ 7-7-7-24 and see how that goes, then try it at 2000 @ 9-9-9-27.

I haven't messed with the overclocking in a few days, but I did set the CPU to 13x200 (2.6GHz) and put the mem to 2000Mhz @ 9-9-9-27 2N and it ran overnight without any errors (8+ hours).
