  • Overclocking success rate?

If you were going to buy pc 1600 ram with the intention of trying to overclock it which is your best bet... I know every kit is different, just wondering if there is one set more likely than the others.

F3-12800CL8Q-16GBZH (black ripjaws, H ending number or does the 8c make it less likely?)

    F3-12800CL9Q-16GBSR (c9 snipers)

F3-12800CL9Q-16GBXL (red ripjaws with 9latency, and L ending)

F3-1600C7D-16GTX (tridents, 2x 8gb instead of 4x4 for the rest)

also would going for 2x8 be easier or tougher to oc than 4x4 setup?

considering building another computer as a buddy has offered me about $400 more than I spent on the one I just built... can get a bit more memory for little more money, figure spend the rest on a processor/vid card upgrade.

The first CL8 kit or the last CL7 kit would be best.

CL7 is $25 more.. so I guess it depends on how much you want to OC. Maybe you don't need such high performance.

@nixdorf12: It actually does help, to have some background knowledge. And then there are mainboards, that make overclocking itself a lot easier. The ASUS ROG or ASRock OC Formula series models for example, with their cpu presets and integrated memory profiles for various chips and configurations. You might still need to fiddle with a few settings here and there and tweak voltages afterwards, but it is by no means rocket science.

@supahos: The F3-1600C7D-16GTX should be good for DDR3-2133 with relaxed timings. However here in the EU both F3-2400C10D-16GTX and F3-2133C9D-16GTX are actually about the same price. That does make them C7s a very bold pick, imo.
