  • M4A89TD PRO / PHENOM x4 955 / F3-12800CL7D-4GBECO problem

Hello. It would be great if someone could help me solve the following problem.
I'm getting freezes/BSOD problems with fallowing setup:
Mobo: Asus M4A89TD PRO USB 3.0
CPU: AMD PHENOM II X4 955
    Memory: F3-12800CL7D-4GBECO 2x2gb 1.35v

    Here are BIOS screenshots

It seems to work only when I put the CPU RATIO down like 10 but it doesnt make sense because cpu is downclocked.
I've also tried many other settings like:
CPU BUS Freq 240 with lower DRAM voltages like 1.35/1.4/1.45 and timing 8-8-8-24 but it doesnt help.

Tried also setting with DDR 1300 / timings: 8-8-8-24 / 1.5v or 1.35v(default) and also didnt help.

Ram Sticks were tested also with gigabyte MA74gmt mobo and phenom x3 445 and @1600 and they were working fine.

Try with CR (Command Rate at) 2T and raise NB voltage to 1.2

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

      better but still not good

With Command Rate at 2T computer doesnt boot up. Black screen is visible from beggining.

But raising NB voltage to 1.2 seems to improve stability a little but it still crashes mostly during system loading.

Why is DRAM Voltage so high? It is 1.35V RAM and you set it to 1.50V..

Also, you should leave CPU Bus Frequency to 200. DRAM Frequency DDR3-1600. CPU-NB Frequency 2400MHz.

        DRAM Row Cycle Time 40
        DRAM WRITE Recovery Time 12

Let me know how that works, should be much better.

        Thank you

I've tried using setup mentioned above. The problem with this setting is that DRAM WRITE Recovery Time value doesn't go at 12 even when I set it manually (as you can see on the screenshot it is still set at 10)
It looks more stable but it freezed during 'PRO TOOLS' installation. Do you have any advices I could use to make it more stable?
I also tested it with Windows Memory Diagnostic and no problems were found.

Tried also with timings 8-8-8-24 / DRCT:40 / DWRT: 12 but it seemed less stable than 7-8-7.

I've tried to change DRAM voltage to 1,35v but it doesnt boot up. Seems like minimum required voltage is ~1,4v.

          Screenshots of setup:

          Thanks for help!

DRAM WRITE Recovery Time as long as it is set to 12T, it should be fine.

Set DRAM Voltage 1.40V, CPU-NB Voltage 1.20V, then see how that works.

AUTO shows 1.35V, that is a little bit high, so the motherboard may be overvolting.

Which slots do you have them installed in? Can one module at a time work stable?

Did you hard reset BIOS to see if it works better?

            Thank you

              Used fallowing setup:
              DRAM Voltage 1.40V
              CPU-NB offset Voltage 1.20V
              ddr @ 1600
              timings 7-8-7-24 DRCT:40 DWRT: 12
Still not good. Computer often freezes/BSOD. One of crashes damaged my system so now I have to reinstall Windows. Often when I turn on computer it says Overclocking failed. Also it detects only 2047 mb of memory. I have to use memOK on each stick few times to get it working as 4095mb.

I did hard reset of BIOS many times.

Sticks are installed in fallowing slots:
              slot#1 (blue) STICK 1
              slot#2 (black)
              slot#3 (blue) STICK 2
              slot#4 (black)

Tried also installing in black slots but with same effects.

Might be your 955 can't handle 1600, (most can't, normally recommend minimum of 965 Rev 3c for 1600), might try at 1333, same timings

I've lost hope completly. Cant get it work since 2 weeks.

                  Tried @ 1333 with 7-8-7-24 timings and 8-8-8-24.
                  Ram voltages 1.35/1.4/1.45/1.5v.
Tried also to make it work as Single Channel @1600/1300 and still crashes.

In Auss mobo's manual they say this ram is supported but they don't suggest volting.

I have changed my CPU to Phenom X4 965 C3 BE. Cant even boot up system without BSOD. Tried with DDR@1600 / timings 7-8-7-24 / ram voltages 1.35/1.375/1.4/1.45/1.5 / cpu-nb voltage 1.2/1.3. Every setting causes BSOD during system loading screen even with DDR@1300 timings 8-8-8-24 dram voltage 1.35. Tried also with one stick installed with same negative effect. Do you have any advices? Thanks.
