  • F3-12800CL 10Q2-64GBZL and ASRock Extreme11

    Hi all,

got some questions for my new 64GB Kit F3-12800CL 10Q2-64GBZL.

    Im running the following specs:

    ASRock Extreme11
    I7 Extreme 3970X
    F3-12800CL 10Q2-64GBZL

The system is running amazing fast but every first boot up the day i got a complete system freeze after a few minutes. The crazy thing is, if i restart the system it runs for hours or even days stable and fine.

I was first thinking about my GPU because a complete memtest shows up nothing special.
But i started to push up the mem voltages and have the feeling that its getting better after i screwed it up.
So i want to be sure about the memory voltage settings and latency.

Is there anyone out who can tell me the maximal voltage setting and best latency for these kit?

And sry for my bad english

Might be an undersized/volt PSU....could try raising the VCCSA and or the DRAM voltage just a hair i.e. try DRAM at 1.53 instead of 1.50 or take VCCSA up + 0.05 from current setting

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

Did you enable XMP Profile in BIOS/EFI?

      Thank you

Well sry for late reply... im a bit busy these days.

The PSU is a be quiet 1200W dark power pro, i dont think its undersized
I also enabled the XMP profile in the bios, yes.
        No changes take effect here.

The very strange thing is that this only happens the very first boot up per day
After i restart the system it runs stable for days if i want.

Should i screw up the VCCSA and the DRAM?
Or only one of them? And if yes which one?

Can try both at the same time, then if all looks good, try reducing the DRAM voltage back towards stock, have a feeling it's the VCCSA - some take up to 1.2 - 1.25 with 64 GB sets

            Back with some further testing:

I set up the VCCSA to +0,05 and in addition the RAM-Voltage to 1,53V but the problem still exist.

Can i do something else? Any other ideas?

Ah now i see my fault.

There are three option to screw the VCCSA up or down.

Auto: will force it to 1,20V I guess this is what intel tell the MoBo
Manual: Here the minimum VCCSA is 0,90V and you can add up to 2,05V on top
Fixed: Here you can force the VCCSA to a value between 0,50V to 2,95V

I choosed manual for the first, but only added +0,05V to the minimum VCCSA of 0,90V
Thats a bit too little i guess

Now i set it to fixed mode and screwed it up to 1,25V.

Ill check if the problem is solved now or not and add an information here.

Okay i checked that settings now:

                  VCCSA: 1,25V
                  RAM: 1,50V

Still got a freeze, again only at the first boot after some minutes on my desktop.
Btw i can easy reproduce this. I only have to set my computer to the standby mode and rewake him. When i (hard)reboot after that i can run the system again for hours or even days.

I checked twice that XMP is activated in bios. XMP is active and set up ram at 1600Mhz.

Yesterday i also checked some different operating systems:

                  linux 64b = freezes
                  windows 7 64b = freezes
                  windows 7 32b = DONT freezes

Which points me to the opinion that it really might be some kind of RAM issue.

Is there any other solutions i can try like timings, voltages etc.?
I read about that its not the best idea to set the VCCSA voltage higher than 1,25V, but what is about the ram voltages?
Maybe i should try VCCSA = 1,25V and RAM >=1,50V?

I also saw that there is a new bios update 2.80 but as i can see they only improved the PCIE compatibility.

Can try both, the BIOS update definitely, on their site they will always list something, but if you break down the total update it's normally about 50-75% DRAM updates. Raising the DRAM voltage can also help - try it at 1.575 or so, if things come up stable we can lower it gradually

So i upgraded the BIOS to 2.80 and running now at the following settings:

                      DRAM: 1.575V
                      VCCSA: 1.205V
                      VCore: 1.310V

Still getting freezes. I got freezes every first boot the day and after a reboot everything runs fine. I also get freezes if i set the system to standby and rewake it. After i reboot the system here it also runs fine.

                      Im a bit helpless :-)

Have you tried swapping them around to see if a different placement setting is better? If not, send them in for RMA exchange to see if a new kit works better:

After i reply to you ill check if it will also be stable if i set the system to standby and rewake it.
