  • Which RAM to use on Asus P9X79 motherboard

    Hello,

I have bought an ASUS P9X79 motherboard
Here you can find its technical details:
    http://support.asus.com/knowledge.as...zuUIBauoP94eTQ

It has 8 Ram slots and it supports up to 64GB memory.
I want to use 32GB DDR3 RAM in total (1600Mhz or above) of GSkill but I don't know which ones I can you use on this motherboard.

I checked your web site www.gskill.com for compatible Ram modules but there is only 1600Mhz or below Ram modules compatible with this model of Asus motherboard.
It is hard to find most of your Ram modules in Turkey.

Can you please send me a complete list of possible & compatible Ram modules for 32GB Ram in total (1600Mhz or above) for ASUS P9X79 ??

So that I will try to find the same products in Turkey by searching their product codes one by one.

Since there is 8 Ram slots on ASUS P9X79, these can be Ram combinations:
    8 x 4GB module (all compatible products of GSkill, DDR3, 1600Mhz or above) = 32 GB
    4 x 8GB module (all compatible products of GSkill, DDR3, 1600Mhz or above) = 32 GB

    Thanks.

Think I'd look to a 4x8GB set starting at 1866 through 2133, with you mobo I'd start with these:

    F3-2133C9Q-32GZH
    F3-1866C9Q-32GZH
    F3-1600C9Q-32GXM
    F3-1866C9Q-32GXM
    F3-2133C9Q-32GXH

There are others, but but these are all CL9 so better than CL10, and colorwise match up to the mobo, there are also some red based sets and sets with lower CL's available in 32GB

Here is a list of most of the available sets (shown at Newegg, could also look through those to find model #s and specs

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ED&PageSize=20

yell if you need any other info

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

I checked my cpu i7-3930k specifications on intel's web site, here is the detailed info for cpu:
      http://ark.intel.com/products/63697/...up-to-3_80-GHz

It says on "Memory Specifications" :

Max Memory Size (dependent on memory type) = 64 GB
      Memory Types = DDR3-1066/1333/1600
      # of Memory Channels = 4
      Max Memory Bandwidth = 51.2 GB/s
      ECC Memory Supported = No

      Should I buy a 32GB (4x8GB) 1600Mhz ram pack instead of 1866mhz or 2133mhz??
      I found F3-1600C9Q-32GXM (4x8GB) in Turkey.
      I checked this ram's specifications on gskill.com ( http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=494 )
it says "Dual Channel kit", it is not "Quad channel" ?? What is the difference between "dual channel and quad channel" ??

Since my cpu (i7-3930k) supports "4 channels" as you can see above in intel's details, should I buy a "Quad channel" ram kit instead of "Dual channel" ram kit??

It has so many details when it comes to buy latest tech devices

Hey here is the ram configurator on the G.Skill website..... This is the ram suitable for the MSI-GD65 Motherboard, it shows ram compabitable for the different modules that should run stable by the recommended specs either vanilla or OC.

The CPU itself can handle higher speeds, what is shown as 'specs' is at standard (non-OCed speeds for the CPU), what you see in the mobo QVL is sticks tested at mobo default (1333/1600). If the BIOS is up to snuff, and the CPU can handle it then under XMP you should be all right. From what I've seen and worked with many of your CPUs can handle 2133, haven't seen one yet do 2400 which is why I suggested 2133 sets. Of course you can go lower to to 1866 or even 1600. It will require at least a 4 stick set to see the true bandwidth of quad channel. (Also keep in mind, XMP is programmed by the set, so buying two sets of 2 sticks won't work with XMP, will want a full 4 or 8 stick set). Also 4 sticks will be less stress obn the mobo than will 8. Might look at info thread on mobo QVL lists here:

                    hello,
I bought the same mainboard, but I searched a lot on internet for suitable rams and at the end, I decided to buy this RAM for asus P9X79:

RAM is working great, no system freeze or any other problems.
                    Good luck!

                        Alcan,

There are many kits you can use. Basically any DDR3-1866 and under can be used:
