  • GA-X79S-UP5-WIFI with INTEL Core I7-3930K and 64 GB RAM

    Hi all,

I intend to replace my old PC. The 64 GB RAM is mandatory for me (I will use the machine as a test environment with a few VM?s on it ? 10 ? 12 VMs).
My question is related to memory model / brand.
I was thinking to go with:
    ?GA-X79S-UP5-WIFI (motherboard) http://www.gigabyte.com/products/pro...px?pid=4287#sp
    ?INTEL Core I7-3930K (CPU) http://ark.intel.com/products/63697/...up-to-3_80-GHz
    ?2 x F3-2133C9Q-32GTX G.SKILL TridentX http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=552

    It should work, right?
I am asking this because I checked the recommended memory list for this motherboard and I didn?t saw the F3-2133C9Q-32GTX G.SKILL TridentX there (or a configuration I can go with up to 64 GB) http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList...s-up5-wifi.pdf.

    So, my main questions:
    1. Should work fine with 2 x F3-2133C9Q-32GTX G.SKILL TridentX ( http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=552 ). The official lists can be outdated, but from specification point of view, it will work?
    2. Did any of you put 64 GB on a GA-X79S-UP5-WIFI? If yes, what type of memory?

    Many thanks for replies.

Can try them, but anytime you mix two sets, even of the same model, it can be problematic and will have to be set up manually. A single set of 64GB will be tested that all sticks play together and the XMP programmed into the SPD will be for the full 64GB, with 2 sets of 32 the XMP is programmed by the set, so it won't work with two sets. Might look at one of these for your combo:

Many thanks. I think the second copy/paste (URL) didn't worked as it should.
Your second combo is http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=454 ?

No worries. Thank you for the advice. It makes sense to go with one 64 GB combo than 2 x 32 GB. I have no idea why I was fixed with 2 x 32 GB and I didn?t look directly to 1 x 64 GB .

I think I am close to go with F3-12800CL10Q2-64GBZL . I will continue a little bit my investigation.

              Hi all,

I confirm. It is working OK with 64 GB. The configuration I have now is:
              GA-X79S-UP5-WIFI (motherboard) http://www.gigabyte.com/products/pro...px?pid=4287#sp
              INTEL Core I7-3930K (CPU) http://ark.intel.com/products/63697/...up-to-3_80-GHz
              G.SKILL F3-12800CL10Q2-64GBZL (8Gx8) http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=432

I recommend this configuration. No issues found.

@Tradesman - you are doing an excellent job here!

              Best regards.
