I just finished a horror build using these components.....

What are the chances of scoring a DOA motherboard AND a stick of faulty RAM? not slim enough it seems.

I initially built this system and for the life of me could not get into the BIOS (as no keyboard could be recognised) so I tore the system apart and isolation tested the RAM, the drives etc. with no luck. In the end we ended up RMA'ing the motherboard based on a few things....
    1) the one time I got a keyboard to recognise and enter the BIOS I got a checksum error
    2) I got no response out of isolation testing any of the other componentry.
    3) isolating the RAM sticks had no effect

So tonight I went for a second round with the replacement motherboard.....same result. I was about to throw the box out the window when I decided to pull the RAM and start the debug process....turns out that one of the RAM sticks was at fault. So unfortunately my friend's new rig has only 8GB of RAM at this point in time, neither of us will be very popular with the retailer (we said we isolation tested the RAM the first time around), so is it possible to RMA directly?

BTW we are based in Sydney (Australia) and purchased from mwave.com.au.

Just for reference the system is:
    AMD FX4100
    Gigabyte GA990FXA-UD3 Rev 1.1
    16GB G.Skill ARES 1333 (8gb atm)
    Gigabyte HD 7750 (880Mhz ed)
    128GB Samsung 830 Series SSD
    2TB Seagate Barrcuda
    Corsair CX600
    Antec 302 v2
AMD Phenom II x4 965 BE
    Noctua NH-U9B SE2
    Asus M4A89GTD Pro USB3

    Antec 900
    Winidows 7 -64bit

Can RMA yes, contact rma@gskill.com, but don't see a reason to NOT go back to retailer, if mobo was faulty then there was no way to effectively test the DRAM individually, may have gotten all sticks to test OK or even all to test bad (which would have been very unlikely)

Thanks Tradesman....I will talk to my friend about another visit to mwave (poor thing bought all the parts but has no computer background...hence my hesitation to go back again). In the mean time would it be advantageous to shoot an email off to that address?

Can't hurt to drop a line, was thinking, a local return and exchange would be much quicker, believe you would be running the RMA through China which is a bit of a trip

My friend is still to get off her backside and go and get that RAM swapped.....looks like she may have to RMA back to Taiwan if she keeps this up...eyelids or no eyelids
