  • Mem setting for Asus M4A77D

    Asus M4A77D (0702 BIOS)
    AMD Phenom II X3 720 (C2 stepping)
    4 sticks F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK

I have never been able to get four stick to boot. Has anyone got suggested setting for this board with this memory?

  • #2
Have you checked each stick w/ memtest to ensure all are good? Do you have latest BIOS? Have you tried the sticks at 800, the MC might not be able to handle 4 at 1066.

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

      Tradesman,
Yes. I have checked each stick of RAM and each pair. Any two sticks works ganged or unganged. What settings would you suggest for trying them at 800? All auto except the speed?

Could start at auto, and 800, but may still need to raise DRAM voltage maybe .05 from spec and CPU/NB voltage, If any further problems, if you could post your BIOS settings we might be able to have a better idea

          Try DDR2-800 4-4-4-12 2.0V instead.

          Thank you

That got a third stick to boot. Won't boot with four sticks.

            4-4-4-12
            2.1 v

            HT 1.2
            NB 1.4

I do note that this memory is no longer on the QVL list. It was when I bought the board AND I do have a print out of that document. Why did Asus drop this memory?

I just want to get to four sticks of 2GB RAM. I am willing to downgrade to 800mHz RAM if that is required. That is all Asus seems to approve at this point.

Those settings should work.. did you try swapping them around to see if one may be bad?

I only have four sticks. Any combination of three sticks works. Adding a fourth stick = no boot. Help me understand how you want me to swap the sticks around and I wil try it.

What is CPU/NB at? Is the CPU OCed at all (may need to be)

CPU is not O/Ced or overvolted. Do u suggest FSB overclock or multiplier?
                    NB is 1.2v
                    HT is 1.4v
                    memory is 2.1v

Timings are 4-4-4-12 with everything else to auto.

HT 1.3, NB 1.4, and DRAM 2.15 with sticks at 800 5-5-5-15 and CR at 2N, if that works then we can either try lowering voltages a tad or tightening the timings....also do you have latest chipset drivers and BIOS? May have been mentioned and I missed it.

BIOS is latest, 2004, see previous note. Chipset drivers are latest.

What is CR? I do not see a setting with that name.

CR is Command Raye, also called Command Frequency, DRAM Command (Rate/Timing/Freq) is noticible as it's an interger (1,2) followed by an N (normally on AMD systems, though sometimes a T).....

May have sticks that don't want to play together or a mobo that has a problem - could try sticks in another system (friend-coworker, etc) or see if you can borrow from someone with 4 four sticks to check mobo
