  • Pc6400 and Asus P5B delux

running q9300 quad core, Asus P5B deluxe -
very stable with 2 1G sticks of

    F2 6400CL5 1GBNQ

    purchased 2 sticks of

    F2 6400CL5S-1GBNQ

can boot to bios but crashes during XPSP2 boot (blue screen, hang or dumps back to bios reboot)

is there a difference in the sticks?

is one high density and the other not? if so is that a problem?

The bios detected pc 5300 and I had to set it manually to 800

The timings self set to 5 6 6 15 SPD is enabled

I'm very new to memory timings and voltages

I just want the 4gig to run -not interested in extra speed

    thanks

    Steve

Initial thoughts would be may need to raise NB .05 to .1 and check tRFC prob want 76 to 80. If you could post your BIOS settings it would help

Raise NB Voltage and DRAM Voltage should help stabilize it.

        help appreciated

I tried to give you as much info as possible -problems started when I changed a dual core E6600 to a q9300 - I did update my bios which supports this new chip.

FSB went from 1066 to 1332

        Bios info: CPU freq 333
        dram freq 833
        voltage auto
        cpu freq auto 2.5Ghz

        config dram by SPD disabled

        Dram# CAS latency - 5
        Dram CAS CAS delay 5
        Dram ras# precharge 5
Dram ras# activate to precharge 15
dram write - recovery time 6
        tRFC 10
        TRRD 10
rank write to read delay 10
        write to precharge delay 11
        static read control auto

        Memory remap- disable

I can boot to windows with these settings 2GB only and will occ blue screen
I cannot get past bios with 4Gb

Any help or other info you need?

Is there any difference between my first 2GB and my 2nd 2GB?

Try tRFC up about 68 and what are your DRAM and NB voltages currently at?

                  ?

FSB is fine, it's stock for your cpu, you want the ram speed at 800, timings look okay, set the ram voltage to .05 above the specification on the package, and go to NB voltage and set it .05 higher than it's currantly at

with small bumps to NV core and memory voltages - am I still ok with stock coolers?

Is there any difference between the memory sticks (what does the S in my new sticks represent)?

Yes on the coolers, the 'S' designates a single sticks in the naming scheme, it will be that or 'D' for DUAL, 'T' for Triple, 'Q' for Quad

In the asus bios changed mem voltage to 1.85 (default 1.8), changed NB Vcore to 1.45 My only choices are 1.25, 1.45,1.55 and 1.65
                        FSB1333, mult 6, timings 5,5,5,15 RAM ratio5:4 Mem speed 399DRAM freq 833, Vcore 1.7

Am I OK - you recc increase in NBcore .05 (1.25->1.30) but I dont have that choice- next step is 1.45 - Do I need addl cooler?? for NB or MB?? Is this OK??
