  • F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK and ASUS P5Q-E

    Hello

I have the mentioned pair of memory (4GB total) for my ASUS Board.

I am happy with this configuration (happier than the procedures and timeouts that I had to wait for to post a message on this board).

    1) I would like to know what my G.SKILL options are for using the two empty memory slots. Under this assumption, I keep the memory I have and simply add more. A possible candidate might be another F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK.

    2) I would like to know what my G.SKILL options are for removing this working memory, and replacing it with other G.SKILL memory. I would be most interested in a pair of memory sticks which add to 8 GB, or a quad memory stick option which totaled 16 GB.

I would suggest the same memory package. Any other may not work properly.

    Thank you

      Other Memory Options for P5Q-E?

      Thanks

      And how about question 2?

Success with F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK and ASUS P5Q-E

          Hello

I ordered the F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK from Newegg (which has a replacement policy including a restocking fee). I now have 8 GB working.

How do I know it works?

First, I upgraded the P5Q-E BIOS to 2101.

I ran the free Memtest 86+ v4.00 -- it ran for 32 hours (I just let it go since I did not need the server immediately, and I believe it cycled through a full memory test at least once and started again). This software tests the memory and reports back any errors, and there were zero errors in 32 hours of testing. This program produced this information:
          Memory: 8191 M 4549 MB/Sec
Settings RAM: 399 MHz (DDR 799)/ CAS: 5-5-5-15 / Dual Channel

On another post (on this forum) I saw screenshots of the free CPU-Z version 1.53.1, which I downloaded and ran from Windows Server 2008:
Showed BIOS version 2101 with date 04/06/2009
          On the Memory Tab:
          Type DDR2
          Size 8192 MBytes
          Channels # Dual
          DC Mode Symmetric

          DRAM Frequency 400.7 MHz
          FSB DRAM 5:6
          CAS# Latency (CL) 5.0 clocks
          RAS# to CAS# Delay (tRCD) 5 clocks
          RAS# Precharge (tRP) 5 clocks
          Cycle Time (tRAS) 15 clocks
Row Refresh Cycle Time (tRFC) 52 clocks
          Command Rate (CR) 2T

I did NOT make any custom setttings in the BIOS setup for any of these changes (I saw other posts which talked about NB Voltage settings, but I kept my installation at "Auto"). I do remember that when I upgraded the BIOS I had the option of using "default" (meaning manufacturer) settings, or entering the BIOS to preserve any changes I had made. I entered to preserve the one thing I know I changed, namely the boot order. However, I do not believe I made any Memory or RAM related changes.

My memory works. I would be interested if there were any other BIOS-level RAM settings that I could alter or tweak for better performance (if anyone has knowledge of something to try). Now having the Memtest+ (which I burned to a bootable DVD) and the CPU-Z I believe I can better monitor the memory and report back to technical-minded people what the specific settings are on my current and future installations.

            DRAM Frequency DDR2-1066
            DRAM Voltage 2.10V
            NB Voltage 1.40V

That should stabilize the system for 8GB at DDR2-1066.

            Thank you

Thanks for the settings, they work
