  • f2-6400cl5d-8gbpq pc's won't boot/post

I have 2 pcs that both will not boot after installing f2-6400cl5d-8gbpq
    motherboard msi k9a2 CF
    and Asus m4n78 pro

Both machines after installing memory won't boot/post. There is nothing on the screen. any help is appreciated or if I need to return please advise.

    Thank You!

Have you manually set timings to 5-5-5-15 2T, or have you tested each stick with memtest? I run those sticks on a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P and I run 5-4-4-15 2T, tRFC at 60, dram @ 1.86v also I had to up my MCH (North Bridge up a few clicks) and im runin them at 852mhz at the present time.

      either pc won't even post

I tried one stick two it doesn't matter. the only way i can get it to post is put a 1gb gskill memory with the same timing in and same bus , but neither board will detect the 4gb ram. the only way i can change bios settings is if that other 1gb stick is in then after i change it no go with or without 1gb stick and i following instructions for a thread i saw previously for the gigabype board and no go, but the naming(settings) between boards for settings are different.

When i mean it won't boot there's no bios, nothing. it doesn't beep because there's no speaker installed.

both bios are up to the latest version.

my bad...I guess I didnt read your post properly......I thought the 8gbpq was 4x2gb, yet after reading up on it I see its 2x4gb sticks........might be something in the timings that Im missing so I best leave that up to the techs.

          Hi,

Pardon me for jumping in, but, according to this:

          http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813130138

The "MSI K9A2 CF-F" specs are:

          Number of Memory Slots 4?240pin
          Memory Standard DDR2 1066
          Maximum Memory Supported 8GB

i.e., the slots take maximum 2GB memory sticks.

If the f2-6400cl5d-8gbpq is 2x4GB, then probably that MSI doesn't support 4GB sticks?

Or, is there a difference between a "CF" and a "CF-F"?

          Jim

guess that solves the problem with the MSI board!!

              Dumaine,

Yes, unless there's a difference in specs between the "CF" and "CF-F" mobo?

I wasn't able to find any info on a "plain" "CF" mobo.

I'm also not sure what the problem is with that Asus m4n78 pro mobo. That seems like it should work ok with 2x4GB DDR2 800 memory ...

I'm especially puzzled that that Asus mobo wouldn't boot with just a single stick of the 4GB memory ...

              Jim

Do you have the latest BIOS for the ASUS motherboard? If so, seems like there is just some sort of compatibility issue.

                  Thank you

f2-6400cl5d-8gbpg bios is up to date

on the asus that was the first thing i did was update it so i wouldn't have any issues with the 965 processor.

Did you input the base timings, DRAM speed and voltage manually? Command rate/timing will have to be 2N, prob want tRFC at 195......may also have to add a little extra juice to the CPU/MC and possibly the HT voltage

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

well........when I ran the 6400's I had 4x2GB Sticks (8GB) 5-5-5-15-2T with tRFC @60(might have to play with that a lil) and 1.3 MCH and DRAM 1.86v...I guess you should load Optimized Defaults, then re-set your BIOS settings to your liking then manually set the memory 5-5-5-15 2T 1.9v 1.3MCH (might need more or less since its 2X4GB sticks) and start from there.

Thanks Dumaine. Question? Is there an advantage having 4 x 2GB sticks as opposed to 2 x 4GB sticks?

now that my friend I can not answer, I dont know if it will be more less stress on the controller either way so I will leave that up to the experts that might read this.

edit...I do know that with 4 sticks you will need more MCH and a higher tRFC for stability yet I didnt have a problem running with 1.3 MCH and 60 tRFC with 4 sticks
