  • Which RAM will work best? (4 x

Hey everyone, I have a question concerning some new RAM I'm hoping to purchase.

Here are the specs for my motherboard -

Now, I'm trying to decide which RAM will be best for my motherboard and setup. I want to add a total of 4GB to my system either through 4 x 1GB stick or 2 x 2GB sticks. I'm not sure which will provide the best performance. My motherboard has 4 slots, each pair supporting duel channel. Here is what I'm trying to choose from -

    TWO OF THESE:

    Specs:

    Brand: G.SKILL
    Model: F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ
    Type: 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM
    Capacity: 2GB (2 x 1GB)
    Speed: DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
    Cas Latency: 5
    Timing: 5-5-5-15
    Voltage: 1.8V - 2.0V
    Buffered/Registered: Unbuffered
    Multi-channel Kit: Dual Channel Kit
    Heat Spreader: Yes

    OR

    ONE OF THIS:

    Specs:

    Brand: G.SKILL
    Model: F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ
    Type: 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM
    Capacity: 4GB (2 x 2GB)
    Speed: DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
    Cas Latency: 5
    Timing: 5-5-5-15
    Voltage: 1.8V - 1.9V
    Multi-channel Kit: Dual Channel Kit
    Heat Spreader: Yes

Essentially the same amount of RAM just in two different formats. Let me know what you guys think, thanks!

You'll need to check the specs on the mobo i.e. manual, if it will take the 2x2 set, I'd go with it, with only two sticks it's less load on the MC....and there may be the possibility in the future that they'll upgrade the BIOS to take 8GB.

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

Currently I don't have access to the manual. What I do know is that my mobo's chipset is GeForce 6100 NVIDIA nForce 430, the PIN types match, the speeds are supported and I have the correct amount of voltage required. I'm faitly certain the RAM will be compatible with my mobo.

Alright, so I'm guessing it's probably best to get the 2 x 2G sticks. That was my initial thought, thanks a lot.

2 x 2 is definitely the way to go. Most systems will require a minimum of 2GB, and you don't want to end up having to buy an additional 2 sticks as that also increases stress on the memory controller and as a result could be unstable or slightly reduce performance.

        Thank you
