  • Unstable 780i SLI and Trident F2-9600CL5D-4GBTD

    ell us the details of your system specifications

    Model of the motherboard:
    Model of the memory:
    Model of the CPU:

    What is the problem? example: no boot, blue screen, reboot... etc.

    System Specs:
    Evga 780i SLI
    G.skill Trident PC2-9600 2x2gb
    C2Q Q6700 (overclocked @3.5ghz multiplier @10x, however tried it underclocked too.)
    Evga 8800 GT
    Corsair 550w PSU

    Anyways, I'm having trouble like the other guy trying to get it to 1200 mhz.
    It just won't work. i've tried what he has also done.

    Anywhere from a QDR:RAM ratio of 1:1-5:4 doesn't work. so 1200:1200 to 1500:1200
    1200 just won't work. So i've had to come here for help.

    The voltages for the ram, i've tried from 1. 8-2.1
    FSB i've put the voltage to 1.3
    Cpu is at 1.43v
    Timings i have it at 5-5-5-15
    and advanced which were
    tRRD - 5
    tRC -31
    tWR -6
    tWTR -11
    tREF -7.8

    Ensure you have the latest BIOS, the ability to hit 1200 RAM is based on BIOS updates, the original max for the stock 780i was 800, then try setting your DRAM timings manually, 5-5-5-15, voltage to 1.8, command rate at 2T, then set your FSB to 1333, leave CPU multiplier as is. You basically have to set your CPU/FSB independent of the RAM (not linked) to get the 1200 to go, and then it's iffy on this mobo, might have to drop speed to 1066. May also have to adjust the tRFC and possibly the tRC. EVGA had a bit of trouble getting the BIOS tuned to hit 1200 so it may take additional tweaking.

      Well i have the P09 bios update which is the latest.
      And i've read one or two other people who have had the same conundrum as me.
      But they've got it working.

      And i know the ram works at 1120mhz.

      However i'm at a loss for tRFC and tRC.
      I've tried many combos but need assistance with that.

          Keep in mind due to motherboard restrictions, i can bring
          tRRD to 15 max
          tRC to 31 (manually) but default is 54.
          tWR-6
          tWTR-15
          and tREF-7.8 or 3.2

          CPU Frequence (mhz)= 3.500.0
          FSB reference clock, mhz = 1400
          CPU multiplier = 10x

          CPIex16_3, mhz = 100
          SPP<-->MCP ref clock, mhz = 200

          nforce SPP -->nforce MCP = 5x
          nForce SPP <--nForce MCP = 5x

          SLI ready memory = expert
          FSB -memory clock mode = unlinked
          FSB (QDR), mhz = 1400
          Actual FSB (QDR, mHz= 1400
          MEM (DDR), mhz = 1120
          Actual mem DDR, mhz = 1120

          Memory Timing setting=Expert
          tCL (Cas latency) =5
          tRCD = 5
          tRP= 5
          tRAS= 5
          command per clock (CMD)= 2t

          tRRD= 5
          tRC= 54
          tWR= 6
          tWTR= 11
          tREF= 7.8uS

            tWR needs to be at least 8
            tRC is quite high

            Keep us posted on the results.

              About that

              "Keep in mind due to motherboard restrictions, i can bring
              tRRD to 15 max
              tRC to 31 (manually) but default is 54.

              tWTR-15
              and tREF-7.8 or 3.2 "

              is the max settings i can do.

                Do you have the latest BIOS? That motherboard is only rated for DDR2-800 if you can not increase tWR.

                Thank you

                  Yes i do, however
                  Some people have got it working before
                  and

                  1200 is somewhat supported.
                  i dont want to have to return it.

                    You may have to loosen timings to see if you are able to stabilize it. Try 5-7-7-20

                    You may also want to try increasing the NB Voltage to 1.20V or 1.30V.

                    Thank you
