  • memory speed

    Hi,

How do I know what speed my memory is running at. I am completing a new build with gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P and G. Skill F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK. System is stable with most BIOS settings on AUTO. Memtest86+ shows Memory SPD as 2048 MB DDR-2-400 for each slot. Does this mean my memory is running @ 800Mhz? I would like to get the memory up to it's stated 1066 Mhz.

You will need to download CPU-z or Everest to check the exact operating frequency.

Make sure to set BIOS to the followng settings:

    Robust Graphics Booster............ [Auto]
    CPU Clock Ratio........................ [ 8X ]
    Fine CPU Clock Ratio................. [+0.5]

    CPU Host Clock Control.............. [Enabled]
CPU Host Frequency (Mhz)......... [ 333]
PCI Express Frequency (Mhz)...... [ 100]
    C.I.A.2.................................... [Disabled]

    Performance Enhance................ [Standard]
    Extreme Memory Profile (X.M.P.).. [Auto]
    (G)MCH Frequency Latch............ [Auto]
    System Memory Multiplier (SPD)... [3.20B]
    Memory Frequency (Mhz)... 1066... 1066
    DRAM Timing Selectable (SPD)..... [Manual]

    CAS Latency Time............ 5...... [ 5 ]
    tRCD.............................. 5...... [ 5 ]
    tRP................................ 5...... [ 5 ]
    tRAS............................ 15...... [ 15 ]

    Load Line Calibration................. [Disabled]
    CPU Vcore............. 1.18750V.... [AUTO]
    CPU Termination.... 1.200V........ [AUTO]
    CPU PLL................ 1.500V........ [AUTO]
    CPU Reference...... 0.760V........ [AUTO]

    MCH Core................... 1.100V... [1.200V]
    MCH Reference............ 0.760V... [Auto]
    MCH/DRAM Reference... 0.900V... [Auto]
    ICH I/O...................... 1.500V... [Auto]
    ICH Core.................... 1.100V... [Auto]

    DRAM Voltage............. 1.800V... [2.100V]
    DRAM Termination....... 0.900V... [Auto]
    Channel A Reference... 0.900V... [Auto]
    Channel B Reference... 0.900V... [Auto]

If slots 1 and 3 are unstable, try slots 2 and 4. Here is our complete guide:

      CPU-z report

Set BIOS to your recommended setting. Ran CPU-z. Report states that memory frequency is 533.5 MHZ. Under EPP profile... 5.0-5-5-15-48-2T @533 MHZ (2.100 volts). Am I OK?
      System stable so far.

Yep, sounds like everything is running fine. 533.5 is the memory frequency, since it is DDR2, it is 533.5 x 2 = DDR2-1067. Next step is to do some CPU overclocking, depending on your processor. =)
